National Museum in Prague celebrating 200-year anniversary: entrance is free this weekend!

Hi everyone,

I have already dedicated some of my posts to the National Museum, one of the most famous landmarks of both Prague and the Czech Republic, so I am not going to write about its history and collections again but there is something you should definitely know if you are in Prague these days.

The museum was founded on April 15, 1818 which means it will be celebrating its 200th birthday tomorrow! On this unique occasion, the management of the institution decided to let visitors see most of its collections for free this weekend (today and tomorrow). There will also be special programs and behind the scenes tours in selected buildings.

While the main building located in the upper part of the Wenceslas Square is by far the most popular part of the National Museum, the institution actually consists of many other buildings such as the Naprstek Museum, Museum of Music, Lapidary of National Museum, Antonin Dvorak Museum etc. Most of these buildings also have free admission this weekend so make sure to visit at least some of them if you are in Prague.
