Hey dear Hive Community, first of all I would like to wish you all a pleasant day and hope you are all well and your weekend was full of positive experiences! In this post, I would like to bring you a mineral something new and I am happy if you can learn something new.
Here you can see a rare metamorphic rock, which is also known as Osumilite. It was named in the 20th Century by the Japanese geologist Akiho Miyashiro (1920 - 2008) who referred to the place of discovery in the province of Ōsumi as well as the Greek word líthos for stone and the first finds were thought to be cordierite which has a similar structure. It is also counted to the mineral class of germanates and silicates and the appearance can vary greatly depending on the specimen and it has a brown, purple or yellow appearance and due to the high rarity there are only a few documented places of discovery and the most important include Japan, Italy, Africa, USA and Germany. The crystals have a translucent to slightly transparent appearance and it is usually found together with other minerals such as quartz, magnetite or zirconium and from an industrial point of view there are no areas of application and it is particularly popular in collectors circles and of great interest due to its rarity.
