We thank the almighty Lord once again for His mercies and glory upon our lives this day, we started the first month of the year with Him and he has been so so Good to us all through the first month. We are in the 2nd month and the 1st Sunday of this month, we have nothing to say but to say Thank You Lord.
Today our theme of meditation is
Changing Our Style Of Prayer
Matthew 6:25 - 26
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
So many Christians these days pray to God only to ask for something or to instruct Him to do their bids for them. All they know is to tell God to answer whatever prayer they speak to Him. The request prayers are so many in our Christian lives today, than we actually fellowshipping with him.
We must be aware that, prayer in the beginning of creation (Old testament) is not the same as what Jesus Christ (New testament) came to preach. In the Old Testament, believers always had to ask from God so that they can receive from him. Believers had to ask because they were promised by God. God promised them that he was going to Bless them and supply their needs. So believers during the Old testament days had to ask for the things God has promised them through prayers. That's why believers at the time of the old testament had to always request for God.
Now in the time of the new testament, which most of us still live by, Jesus Christ came and he taught about the old covenants because He lived during the old the old covenant. During his time he taught believers how they can have faith in the Lord. He made all everyone who believed in the Law of Moses, how to grow in faith.
We must know that we are not from the era of Moses, so our prayers have to change too. We have to walk in the New testament. In the new testament, all of God’s promises have to be fulfilled through Jesus Christ. So believers of today don't have to request for things from God as the old testament believers did, we have received them already because all the things are ours. We only have to walk in our inheritance.
It is high time we, the new testament believers stop the "beggarly prayer life" and understand what God has freely given to us.
1Corinthians 2:12
We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.
There is so much "give me this, give me that" or "Do this for me, do that for me"
God has already healed us. Divine health is our heritage, therefore, if there is any disorder or discomfort in our body, we don't need to beg God to heal us. We only need to affirm the word of God concerning our divine health.
As believers today, our prayers shouldn't be a means of asking God for things but it should be an avenue to fellowship with Him through Christ.
As I end today, may the Good Lord guide and protect us through our lives and may he strengthen us to fellowship with him through His son Jesus Christ. Amen
