Bangui, Ilocos Norte
Philippines 2012

Am a big fan of natural renewable energy so this is something I wanted to see all my life! Having reached the area, I was truly mesmerized by the monstrosity of them all. Just by looking at the 20 gigantic turbines, I was figuratively blown away.

FACTS

The wind farm uses 20 units of 70-metre (230 ft) high Vestas V82 1.65 MW wind turbines, arranged on a single row stretching along a nine-kilometer shoreline off Bangui Bay, facing the West Philippine Sea.

The Northwind Bangui Bay Project as what they call it, is located at the municipality of Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. The area is located at the north-west tip of Luzon island, from where the wind blows towards the land one would see the windmills as they face the sea. According to sources, currently, the electrical power production is around 25 megawatts and constitutes to about 40% of the electrical power in the provinces.

The towers are 60 meters high and looking very impressive from near or afar. A single wind turbine has the capability to produce a maximum capacity of 1.65MW. Interestingly enough, what makes these towers so distinctive is that they are in a way lined up in a single row just 10 meters from the sea edge.

The Travelogue

The weather was not so cooperative by the time we reached Ilocos Norte due to an impending storm. But no one can stop two determined travellers to explore and check what is in store for us in the northernmost part of the Philippines.

How We Got There:

Several public bus companies are available, Florida, Partas, Fariñas, and Maria De Leon to name a few, have regular trips directly to Laoag City and are plying the area day and night. The travel time normally takes around 10-12 hours by broad daylight however it gets shortened to 8-10 hours at night. Well, the day trips do take longer due to traffic congestion.

Wrapping it up, the Bangui Windmill adventure was all worth all the "bum-breaking" bus rides too! LOL. The whole northern Philippine trip, in general, gave me a good glimpse of the wonderful and peaceful provinces in the northernmost areas of my country. It gave me time to think and gave me time to get a glimpse of my future, by future I mean future travels _

Dear Steemians, I hope these photos were visually entertaining to you all. In closing, I believe, when you leave a beautiful place, you carry the memories with you wherever you go.

This is my photo entry for @juliank’s and @photocontests#landscapephotography.
