THE HOSPITAL GIST X: BAD FRIENDSHIP

Today, I went to the hospital for checkup. Like I do say, it is important to do regular checkup. It is medically okay and can help find health issues before they start. Anyway, I was declared medically fit like always. I passed by the special ward and saw a guy cuffed to the bed. I had to check if I was at the psychiatric wing but I wasn’t. The doctor passed around that time so I asked him about the young man and this is the gist.

Stephen had a slow education and finished secondary school at the age of 16. When he was through, his mother advised him to go for computer studies pending the time he would get admission to the university. He was never interested, he wanted quick money. He would sneak out to meet with his friends to gamble. Whenever he was short of money, he would steal his mother’s money and run off. His mother did all she could to no avail.

One of his friends introduced him to some older guys in the area. They liked him immediately they saw him and promised to make him rich. He became fulfilled and more disobedient to his mother. The guys introduced him to smoking, drinking, drugs and women. At the age of 17, he was already deeper into the world than most guys in their 20s. One night when he was about to leave their house, one of them gave him a backpack and made him promise never to check what was inside but keep safe. He felt responsible for the first time in his life and hid it in his mother’s house. That was how he became the backpack-keeper for them.

They would request for the bag and he would take it to their house then travel for a long time. Whenever they got back, they gave him so much money and the bag to keep. His mother noticed his new lifestyle and woke him up one night to talk to him. She asked him where he got all the money from but he lied. The woman got angry and told him to confess or face her wrath. He got angry too, packed his stuffs with the bag and left the house. The mother cried bitterly because she knew her son was on the wrong path.

He moved in with the guys and they were happy to receive him. They eventually introduced them to their work as armed robbers. He had no choice than to join the gang. He became the watch out for the gang whenever they went out for operation. For 2 years, they had successful operations till they faced their waterloo last week. They were involved in a gunfight with the policemen. The whole gang took off except Stephen. He was shot unconscious. The police took him to the hospital to be treated before questioning.

The kind of friends we keep tend to affect us later in life. Stephen made a wrong choice and that put him on the wrong path. Disobedience has consequences especially to our parents, he has put his mother in so much pain because of greed and bad choices. We should always consider people around us when we make decisions because our choices can either make them happy or sad.
