@acromott and I were in for a treat. Our friends Marina and Atria, are certified sailors, and they decided to take us out for a little sailing adventure.
This was my first time on a boat that completely relied on wind to move. The photo below, is a picture of the boat we sailed in.
Atria, our captain, helped keep us safe, read the winds and guided the boat out of the bay safely. It's was so amazing to witness Marina and Atria working together to maneuver the sails so gracefully in the ocean. In sailing, you must work with what you are given. You cannot control the wind. Instead, you can focus on adjusting your sails to reach your destination. I think sailing is very reflective of real life. Sometimes in life, we are just thrown into situations, and there are a lot of uncontrollable factors. It is up to us, to problem solve and learn how to work with what we have.
During our sailing adventure, we had moments where we were smooth sailing, because we had caught a nice strong wind. Other times, the wind died down, and we slowly cruised along. Regardless of the speed of the boat, I really enjoyed my time, even the times when we moving slowly. It made me realize, how easy it is to rush by life because we are so focused on reaching our final destination. We forget to just enjoy the moment for what it is. When you are on a boat, there is no where to go, nothing to distract you. It really gives you time to just slow down a little, and just look around you. "The sky is blue. The sun feels so good on my skin. I'm surrounded by such loving friends. Life is beautiful! I'm grateful to be alive."
