It's Tuesday, so in keeping with my routine which I've held for a while now I've compiled a couple of songs to add to the music community as part of #TTT I find it a lot of fun to share whatever has found it's way into my playlist this week.
To be honest, I should get Spotify and make a playlist; even though it would be a very eclectic bunch of songs.
Gosh - Jamie xx
This song is pretty cool, even though it's pretty random and sounds like it shouldn't work as a song because in a way it just sounds out of place.
My friend used to live with a guy who had a studio in the countryside. Tucked away in the middle of nowhere and with no neighbours was this house that you wouldn't know was there unless you were visiting.
The owner of the place had these massive speakers that were designed and used at Skywalker Ranch. To say the house shook with the noise of them would be an understatement. This is a song he put me onto while playing it out there, and my god, the bass - especially on those speakers - was intense.
We had a lot of fun out there, and in general, as he lived in my house for a while when he needed to get away for a bit. He was a good guy and sadly isn't with us anymore.
There were a lot of fun nights though, and every time I stick this song on I remember him.
It has a very dystopian feel to it, and the video especially works so well with the tone of it.
Tied Up In Notz - Sleaford Mods
I love Sleaford Mods, they're such a refreshing sound compared to most of the usual stuff that's out there. I was delighted to get introduced to these guys a couple of years ago, and I dived pretty deep into their music.
It was shocking to discover how many albums they had out by the time I came across them because I figured they were pretty new then but no, they'd been going a while.
For a two-piece they're powerful, and I was lucky enough to see them live a few years ago when they played in Dublin, I didn't get a chance to talk with them, but their performance was class and they got the place hopping.
Becky Hill x Chase & Status - Disconnect
This one has been on my radar for a couple of weeks now, and like a boomerang, it keeps coming back. I really like it, and I've been using it to write to, along with a bunch of other songs.
Actually, yesterday I had a good morning. I threw on a pair of headphones and this was one of the first suggestions YouTube gave me and when I clicked on it they provided a random playlist of similar stuff.
Although I didn't use that time to write any of my own stuff here on Hive, because I'm at the tail end of a big writing project that I'm at the end of. I used that playlist to work on that for a while. Tell you what, Keystrokes of Thunder with some of the stuff that was coming on haha, I'm surprised I still have any keys left.
When this bit of work is done, I've got a couple more things waiting on the sideline to get cracking with, which is great. It's always good to have things lined up in that way.
