Today I went for a walk down by the bay for around 8500 steps. The wind was still very cold especially as we were walking into it. This has been the snowiest February around here in 70 years from what I’ve seen in the newspaper headlines.
We saw a great many eagles, hawks, seagulls and other birds.
There were lots of birds around. Seagulls were at the edge of the ice near a small island. A pair of eagles were in this tree by the farm field. You really can’t see them well but I liked the look of the snow on the field and the mountain view in the background. I spotted an eagle nest as we were driving back. There were five eagles around the nest, but one of them flew off when we stopped the car for a picture. I’m not sure why it takes five eagles to be around the nest. (Maybe it takes a village to raise a baby eagle) There has been a lot of winter storm warnings and school closures around here with more snow in the forecast. I keep looking around and thinking, “Snowstorm? What snowstorm? There’s barely four inches of snow out there.” (I grew up in an area with a lot more snow.)Things have changed a lot there just while I’ve been alive – they don’t get nearly as much snow now.
My dad used to tell me stories of the snowstorms that they used to get when he was a child. Several feet of snow could blow in overnight trapping the cabin door closed. Some people probably don’t know that those little windows up in the attic used to serve a good purpose just in case it snowed and drifted so much you were trapped inside the house.
Anyhow, I’ve finished my step goal for the evening so I get to relax and watch some video. To get my steps up I ended by pacing around the office carrying my water bottle weights.
I hope you enjoy the pictures.
