Entertainers Should Shut Up About Politics While They Are Working

Hollywood hypocrisy displayed by famous actors when it comes to politics is laughable when you really think about it.

For example, celebrities who advocate for gun control or even getting rid of guns altogether while surrounding themselves with armed security guards as they get out of their chauffeured limos and live behind guarded gates in their mansions makes it clear they live a different life than what they advocate for the rest of us.

All the people who are protecting them so fans can't storm the stage or get into their homes and venues where they perform are all armed guards. It's hypocrisy at its finest.

What it comes down to is what Donald Trump talked about on the campaign, there are these pockets in our society, New York and Los Angeles, that really don't get that there's a lot of country in between.

Most Americans don't have personal assistants doing everything for them and real life is happening for most citizens that an insulated actor doesn't have to deal with, and while we value their talents they just don't get it. They are really far from reality at this moment in time and I'm hoping that we can help them come back down to earth.

Dolly Parton has one of the most intelligent responses when the media continually presses her for her views on politics that more actors and entertainers would be wise to follow. Her response is;

“I learned a long time ago, keep your damn mouth shut if you want to stay in show business. … I’m not in politics, I’m an entertainer.” - Dolly Parton

Thank you, Dolly Parton.

Michelle Malkin, who did a report on the hypocrisy of Hollywood political advocates, noted about the differences in how Hollywood thinks about gun control stated that their operative slogan is "armed security for we but not for thee". Five hundred law enforcement officers from the local LAPD as well as FBI agents were armed to the teeth.

Can you imagine if every American school was as protected as the Oscars event? The Hollywood elite strut around in their stilettos and orange pins virtue signaling about gun control while not only are they protected by all of these armed security guards, but a lot of them travel with armed security, living in gated communities behind tall walls while they lecture the rest of us as racist, nativist people who sanctimoniously advocate for the slaughter of innocent people because we disagree with them and defend our own Second Amendment rights.

I think this is why we will see, at the end of the day, the number of Americans who are tuning out these hypocritical liberals is larger than it's ever been.

Then you have people like Jimmy Kimmel who plays both sides of the aisle. On the one hand, he's like, I'm just a late night comedian. Don't mind me. And then, on the other hand, seizing every opportunity to falsely claim some sort of absolute moral authority getting his talking points from Chuck Schummer on everything from gun control to immigration.

Why can't these people just entertain without thinking of themselves as unelected politicians in this country? If anyone was at work talking about their political views all the time they would be fired.

Entertainers have actually come to believe that we care what they think, but they are wrong. It's offensive that they confuse our admiration for blind faith just because we don't think or vote the way they want you to. That is crossing a line and losing touch with reality.

Losing touch with reality is what the movie business is all about but these are real people we're talking about in the real world.

What is really tremendous is the level of narcissism needed to say something like, if you don't do what I want I'm going to move out of the country. People who have threatened to move out of the US if Trump was elected, for example, include Amy Schumer, Rosie O'Donnell, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Cher, Barbra Streisand, Miley Cyrus, Rev. Al Sharpton, Ne-Yo, Bryan Cranston, Chelsea Handler, Michelle Branch, Lena Dunham, Samuel L. Jackson, Jon Stewart, Jennifer Lawrence, Omari Hardwick, Jenny Slate, George Lopez, Armie Hammer, Amber Rose, Keegan-Michael Key, Neve Campbell, Raven-Symoné, Spike Lee, Stephen King, Chloë Sevigny, Zosia Mamet, Elisabeth Moss, Natasha Lyonne, Sienna Miller, Whoopi Goldberg, Barry Diller, Kathryn Hahn, Eddie Griffin, Jurnee Smollett-Bell.

Why would we care where celebrities live? I have no idea where they live currently. For all I know, they're all living abroad anyway because I'm not invited into their homes. So, just go already and shut up about it.

This is what celebrities don't understand. That kind of a threat just displays the high level of narcissism they have and it's a little insane.

When we go to the movies we want escapism. That's why we go to the movies. When I watch the Academy Awards I want to see the movies and awards for the craft of making those movies, not some grandstanding actor spouting their political beliefs. I don't care who you voted for and don't need you bad mouth our leaders. When I want to watch politics I watch CSPAN. Why do I have to listen to actors talking politics? It sucks and needs to stop.

That said, what they do on their personal time as a citizen is their own business, but they should stop using their entertainment platforms to advocate for political policies, especially for policies they don't even follow themselves and politicians should stop using entertainers as a tool to leverage their influence. The only exception is if they run for office themselves.
