Mini Motivation #85 - How Google is stealing your wisdom

Have you ever been asked a question, which answers you don't know, and you just immediately respond by saying "let's Google!"?

Or perhaps it was an IQ test that you're stuck on for a few seconds?

Or even reading reviews on the movie you just watched but can't seem to understand the ending?

In the old days, without Google being at your fingertips, you may remember a time when you used to think through your questions. You come up with hypothesis. You discuss with your friends and teachers. You stay up all night, stumped at that IQ question. You reflect on the films you just watched, and wondered that the director wanted to portray in his/her story telling.

Yup, you used to think a lot more, but thanks to Google, you don't anymore. In an excuse to save time, you decided to get the answers immediately. In truth, it's more an act of instant gratification, that you need to get what you want as soon as possible, so you can move on with you life. But do you really move you with life?

In time, you'll just look for something else to ponder for two seconds, before whipping out your phone and satisfying your mild-curiosity. So much for delayed gratification, huh?

What we don't realised is that, searching for answers trains our mind in problem solving and creative thinking, reflecting on content we just consumed develops wisdom within, and delaying gratification is a way to cultivate emotion intelligence. If you know how much Google, or the internet at large, has ripped from you, would you still allow it to happen?

We can't live without technology, and it would be backwards if we don't embrace it. So, the next time you have a need to satisfy your curiosity, tap on your creativity instead. When you can't pinpoint the name of that restaurant you went last month, calm your senses and search your memories. When you can't find a solution to your daily problems, explore and try first.

Trust me, it will reward you ten fold in the long run.

Mini Motivation is my own daily strategy to inspire myself. Mostly 3-minute reads.

From Motivation, we gain Inspiration. From Inspiration, we achieve Momentum. And the rest, they say, is history.

Hope it helps nudge you a bit too in the right direction.

Oh it did? Let me know in the comments, and of course an upvote would be a nice motivation for me. :)

Stay awesome!

Wait, why's Mav posting on Steemit nowadays?

Well, unlike other blogging and social media platform, Steemit is the only platform that allows me to earn cryptocurrency when I engage with it. Yup, one Steem is about USD5, and you, too, can earn Steem Dollars every time you:

  • Create content (articles, blog posts, podcasts, videos, photos)
  • Upvote (like) other people contents
  • Comment on other people's posts
  • Have discussions, share opinions etc!

Yup, basically it's the very same thing you're doing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc all along!

The only difference? For once you can earn a nice income on the side!

Sign up for a free Steemit account, and you can thank me by coming back and upvoting this article. And guess what, you will earn Steem too for doing that! #awesome
