Goldfinches in the garden

Spotted these Goldfinhes in the garden today and tried to get a few photos before they flew off. I had my 300 mm lens on the camera and was shooting handheld and couldn't quite get a sharp focus as you can see below.

It was nice to see these flighty little birds in the garden. As soon as you get one in shot the fly off.

I think that the diopter is a little off on the camera as they looked in focus to me. Could be my eyes though?

Some Goldfinces migrate to warmer parts of europe in the winter when they cannot find enough food in the UK.

We have had a few record breaking sunny days (21 degrees) last week and the bugs have come out in force so I suppose the birds are having an early feast.

The buds on the trees still haven't fully developed so who knows when the actual spring will arrive?

Goldfinches are easy to identify as the adults have red faces and black and white cheeks
