ULOG 135 - a whole day with a friend’s family

ULOG the log about you!

What a marvellous weekend weather! It was sunny the whole day and the temperature and wind level were perfect! I invited my friend and colleague Ruoxi and his parents to come around for a BBQ with us.

I lit up the rocket stove and also started the wood charcoal while my wife was marinating the pork and chicken wings and preparing the burgers. The meat came out first and I started cooking few skewers on the BBQ along with two whole corns with their skin on. The pork was slightly over cooked and were a tad too dry due to the fire being too hot at the beginning but they still tasted pretty good. The coal cooled down a bit and it was almost perfect for the chicken. My wife marinated them with chive, spring onion, ground pepper, fish sauce, soya sauce, honey and salt.

The burgers followed and were downed in no time hahahaha. We were rather full by then but we still had the corns and some sweet potatoes.

I really liked those sweet potatoes we bought them in Cabramatta because the ones from Coles are rather mushy, too soft, these ones have firm flesh. I did my homework and found out they are called Okinawan sweet potatoes or Hawaiian sweet potatoes. They have a beige coloured skin but the inside is purple.

We then ended the feast with some oranges and watermelon.

The afternoon was spent showing around my plants in the garden and my friend’s dad playing with my son while my friend and I tried to fix my dishwasher but we ended up putting it out for council pickup but not before I could salvage the two water pumps from it.

Meanwhile my wife and my friend’s mum were making some Chinese steemed, I mean steamed buns 😂.

The evening then ended and after our guests left, my son and I continued watching the second episode of Harry Potter.

I hope you guys all have enjoyed your weekend and are ready for another week of hard work!
