Great Blue Heron Encounter
f/5.0 1/320 sec 190 mm ISO 160
I spotted a Great Blue Heron feeding by the lake yesterday. So I grabbed a few photos. It's pretty common to see egrets and cranes here, but heron sightings are fairly infrequent. After getting my camera I was able to get fairly close to her. She seemed undisturbed by my photoshooting. Her attention was elsewhere. Suddenly she turned. There was a huge splash and in a second she was flying off with a big perch in her bill.

She had one eye on the lake. In a flash she grabbed a perch a foot or two off shore and was taking it across the lake for dinner.
