I've been taking allergic shots every week for the past 6 months, except for a couple of weeks I took off for vacation last summer. A fatal reaction I had a year ago from a wasp is the reason. Doctors are teaching my body to react smoothly if I ever get bitten again. Since then I have to always bring adrenaline shots with me as a precaution.
I go to the hospital to get the shots, they also have to put an intravenous line in my hand to be able to quickly inject me an antidote in case of a a hard reaction.
The poison dose doubles every week and thankfully I have had no reactions so far which I thought was good but apparently, it is not as we need my body to react only on a a much lower scale than it did the first time. It is this reason that made the doctors decide to speed up the dose and make an x4 (no, unfortunately,, this is not APR) this time instead of an x2 last week. An hour and a half later I left the hospital with no reaction as usual.
On Saturday, while shopping in the mall I started feeling my arm swelling where I had the shot taken. The final reaction I thought. Little I knew a few minutes later I started feeling dizzy and ended up fainting.
We ended up in the hospital and the doctors had me there for a couple of hours to finally say it was not as they had planned (due to the moment it ended up happening) but it was good to finally see my body react.
We live our lives completely ignoring that nothing is ever under control although we need to believe it is to keep rolling no matter the effort we put into, we just have to learn how to best deal with the unexpected.
