Just one food.

This week contest is quite interesting because It's about food. My people will say what is life without food, even God knew the importance of food that was why he created plants and animal for food before creating man.

Food is nutritious substances that either man or animal eats or drinks that gives strength. Food is something man cannot part with, out of the three basic needs of man, food is the most important. When a man is not eating for a long period of time and it is not because of fasting trouble awaits. We need food to stay alive, to grow, to heal, and to prevent illness and diseases.
The quality of people can be determined by the food they eat likewise, food can be used to determine your economic status.

I am a person that loves varieties, I love combining different type of food but the topic has limited me to choosing only one food. After deep consideration of my preferences when it comes to choice of what to eat I choose Beans (brown). I would have chosen spaghetti but beans is healthier than spaghetti. Consuming beans helps to reduce the risk and also manage some chronic diseases. Beans is a source of fibre, carbohydrate and protein.

I know many will be wondering how possible it is to keep eating day in and out. It is possible, beans can be prepared in numerous ways some of which I will explain below:

  • Moi moi: this is when you remove the beans coat after soaking for some minutes, blend it with pepper, onions and crayfish (optional), after which other ingredients are added then package in nylons, leaves or any form of suitable packaging and cooked. Moi moi can be consume alone at any time and it is cost minimizing.
  • Ekuru (white moi moi): the difference between Ekuru and Moi moi is that you don't add pepper when blending it, instead you blend the pepper separately and fry it as stew to eat the white moi moi. It is always nutritious.
  • Akara ( beans cake): this is another way of preparing beans similar to moi moi, The similarity is the blending of the soaked beans with pepper, onion and crayfish (optional) and adding seasonings while the difference is instead of cooking, akara is fried. It can be eaten as snacks.

The above are processing beans in different ways. Beans can also be prepared without blending in different ways such as Ewa Agoyin (cooked beans with stew), Beans porridge (beans cooked together with blended pepper and onions with seasonings) , Fried beans (cooked white beans fried in palm oil), and peeled beans porridge (peeled beans cooked like porridge).

It can also be combine with rice, fried or cooked plantain, yam, cocoyam and Irish or sweet potatoes.
I know some people fear eating beans because of purging my experience is different, I don't purge. If you do experience purging after consuming beans you can parboil the beans or remove the coat before cooking. I love it more because it is a good way of avoiding getting fat and maintain a balanced diet can be easily achieved.
