What is vintage collectible silver?1
The older 1 oz silver bullion and fractional coins produced by private mints worldwide before the year 2000 are classified as vintage. The year 2000 distinguishes modern collector silver from vintage silver solely, and this is for classification purposes. Anything created after the year 2000 is considered modern.
There are certain series— like the Sunshine Minting Eagles— that were manufactured before the year 2000. Sunshine Minting have been around since 1979.
Some vintage silver rounds have dates. Some have the name of the mint that issued them. Yet, there are vintage undated rounds of unknown mints.
@senstless showed us his vintage rounds. Unbeknownst to him, I collect them too!
1 oz Rarities Mint Liberty Round BU
I bought this Liberty Round to add to my collection. And I haven't stop buying vintage rounds whenever I find a good one. I especially like the trade units.
I especially like the eagle on top of the Liberty Bell.
I usually keep my coins and rounds in airtites. At the time I bought the round, I didn't have the right size airtite ... and I kept it without trying to find one that fits it.
One reason why I wasn't able to put it in a capsule immediately is that it is rather thick. Look!
Rarities Mint was own by a certain Ian Simpson and operated the mint out of Anaheim, California. From 1983 to 1987, the mint produced the Liberty rounds like the one above, themed rounds, commemorative centennial rounds and coin replicas.
The Disney series caused the company to struggle in its later years, and owner Ian Simpson disbanded the business in 1995.
Like other bullion, vintage silver rounds and bars exist in a variety of sizes and shapes with different finishes. Vintage silver is becoming harder to find and increasingly in demand. The silver bars can come in multiple variations and have mintages of fewer than 500 pieces.
I am not yet into vintage silver bigger that 1 oz, LOL. I have a couple of bars, which I will show later. And there are rare silver bars, and I can only dream about them!
Purchasing unusual silver bars is a two-for-one deal... you're receiving a rare collectible that will increase in value over time in addition to a high-quality precious metal with intrinsic value!
