Embrace The Moment

Embrace The Moment

I have to remind myself often enough to do that.
It is an easy mistake to make, to spend days, weeks, months, years or even your whole life on autopilot, disregarding the true experience.

  • Be self-conscious about your feelings, your senses and your actions.
  • Stop what you're doing for a few seconds, take a deep breath.
  • Take as much time as you need or have to reflect.

Memories are the Past.
The Future is always at least one moment away.
All we really have is Now.

See life through your own eyes, not through a camera lens 🙈 📷

I remember when many years ago, we used to laugh about the stereotypical Asian tourists with their photo cameras, cell phones, tablet PCs and selfie sticks. They would visit the city of Salzburg for example and take pictures of everything. One picture per second, of every object, big or small, important or not. Without even looking at it in real life themselves, only seeing through the camera's lens or display. It looked stressful and not enjoyable, not what I was imagining to do on holiday, as a tourist. With the technological progress nowadays, I find this to become more and more common.

Don't get me wrong. I do like photographs, my point is a different one:
While photos can help remembering things, it is still just a memory. It can never become as vivid and exciting as it was in that one single moment in the past.

A similar example:
You're at a music concert of your favorite band but instead of enjoying the atmosphere, the feeling, the music, the cheering crowd - you're filming the whole time. Looking through the camera lens or at the cell phone display, you miss out on a big part of the unique experience.
You are here now! Make the most out of it.

Don't become an attention-slave 🙉 📴

Because your attention is the most precious thing you have in life.
Let's take a step back, how do I get to this bold statement?
Your time on this earth is limited. It is slowly running out and there is no way to get it back. So if time is the most valuable thing you have, it is even more important what you do with it. It is your decision what you focus on or who you pay attention to.

This is especially important in our today's technologically advanced society, where we can get distracted so easily. Cell phone notifications, TV ads and alike can demand our attention. We have to be self-conscious about our behavior to be able to choose how we spend our time and attention.

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed it. Let me know what you think about my views on this stuff.

Until next time, take care. 😊
