Are you busy?
This is probably one of the rare occasions where an article carries the busy tag for more than one reason. ;-) Not only to promote @busy.org and to get that sweet upvote, but also to help busy people, who don't have a lot of spare time, with this special hiking trip tip. It's also great for beginners, although there are some advanced passages near the top, so watch your step.
Nockstein
The Nockstein as a place of power, is a popular hiking destination at a height of 1042 metres.
My girlfriend and I made use of the perfect warm and sunny spring weather here in Austria these days and took a short trip to a nearby mountain, the Nockstein.
We had an unhurried short hike, easily manageable in below 2 hours (up and down, including breaks).
Altitude at starting point: 833 m.
The first few meters we walked on a steep paved road.
The majority of the hike is through woodland terrain.
It was a liberating feeling when we got out of the woods (literally) and had a clear view on the surrounding landscape, without trees obstructing our sight. At the same time it was scary at first, as I needed some time to overcome my fear of heights / vertigo.
Just a few meters below the summit there are placed two stone sculptures by the Salzburg based artist Georg Walter.
Only a short, narrow path between me and the summit.
Summit cross at 1042 m altitude:
At the summit we had a great view over Salzburg and the Alpine foreland, the Flachgau and the Salzkammergut.
From the summit, we could even see my car in the parking spot:

View to Gaisbergspitze:
If you have the time and inclination for a longer trip, there are several junctions along the way you can decide to take. One for example leading to the neighboring mountain's summit, called Gaisbergspitze.
By the way I only do old school selfies, without stick. I did them long before the stick was even invented ;-)
Until next time, take care. :-)
