... except it isn't. Most of us know that they would never call us to offer to fix our computers. They don't even have a way to associate your PC with your phone number. I've had many such calls. They want to gain access to your PC and get you to pay them for 'support'. They will say there is a problem such as the computer running slowly. That's pretty inevitable with Windows.
If I have time then I will keep them talking for a while even though I don't use Windows at home. I can waste their time so they are not conning someone else. Eventually they tend to give up on me as I play dumb.
So it's good to hear that people are being arrested for this. British police found some people in the UK involved in this scam. I suspect that more of those making the calls are in places like India judging by their accents, even if they give a British name. The funniest one said he was Peter Parker. I had to ask if he was Spiderman!
They prey on vulnerable people who don't know much about computers. Many will be elderly. We can at least warn friends and family to be aware of such scams.
Stay safe!
