About a month ago I shared one of the coins I had picked up on a diving trip to Belize, and I think it's about time to share another! After I shared that coin I did a little more research into it only to find out that it came out of a silver proof set made in 1974. The coin today also came from one of those sets as well. I'm not quite sure why they broke up the set, but someone did at some point.
Nearly half of the land in Belize is covered by rainforest. It sits in the middle of Central America where much of the land is nothing but rainforest so that's not a huge surprise. The density of the forests is amazing, and getting lost in one isn't a hard thing to do. Every year people wander off of trails and are never seen again. You could be fifty feet from the trail and never find it again unless you know what you're doing.
The variety of wildlife in these jungles is mind boggling. New species are found frequently because so much land is unexplored. I recall seeing all sorts of birds and annoying little monkeys. The ones that lived near the hotel weren't afraid of humans and would beg for (or steal) any food you might have. If you haven't been to a rainforest before in the tropics it's well worth the trip, they are an amazing place to visit!
Today I'm sharing the 25 cent coin from one of those silver proof sets I mentioned earlier. It was still in it's protective capsule when I took these shots so the scratches and imperfection are really just the capsule and not on the coin. Have a look:

The blue-capped motmots live in the rainforest throughout Central America. It's bright colorations provide camouflage against predators because when they are holding still they are relatively difficult to see. I never would have guessed that, however I am most certainly not a guru about rain forests. It ranges between 15 to 17 inches (38 to 43 cm) in length, so not a very large bird. It likes to eat small insects and lizards, with some occasional fruit. Instead of nesting in trees like most birds they nest in tunnels which I found interesting.
Thanks for taking the time to stop by and read my post today. I really appreciate all of your support! If you have any suggestions, comments, or question please feel free to leave them below.

Congratulations @kunschj !
I just sent over the funds for your 3 HSBI units!
I do have some bad news regarding this giveaway. I have been informed that it is it is considered buying votes to give away HSBI for in a re-blog lottery. I still want to give away HSBI to give back to the Hive community, so over the next couple of days I'll find another solution that isn't going to cause any problems. Until then I'm going to have to suspend the lottery, I'm sorry! But please stay tuned!
