If you haven't heard, I started a new Steem Engine tribe called STEMGeeks. STEMGeeks is a community focused on Science Technology Engineering Math (aka STEM).
STEMGeeks has its own token called STEM that you can find on Steem-Engine.
STEMGeeks has its own customized condenser (front-end) available at https://stemgeeks.net and you can find it under Steempeak's tribe functionality as well.

Why use STEMGeeks and not Steem?
STEMGeeks is Steem, but https://stemgeeks.net focuses on the STEM niche only and has its own token that is rewarded in addition to STEEM. You can also earn STEM passively by purchasing and staking STEMM tokens which are also available on Steem-Engine.
STEM was initially distributed through an airdrop and additional STEM can be earned through proof of brain (posting content and curating) and proof of stake (mining).
840,960 STEM tokens are created yearly through inflation (initially 8.41%). 672,768 (80% of inflation) will power the proof of brain reward pool and 168,192 (20% of inflation) will be available to users who have STEMM miner tokens staked. The inflation is reduced by 3% each year until it stabilizes around 2%.
Staking STEM tokens will increase your influence of the reward pool distribution similar to how Steem Power works. There are currently 536 users with STEM staked within the first 5 days of going live. I would love to see this number reach 1,000 users.
There are currently 174,478.803 STEM tokens staked by the community.
What type of content is good for STEMGeeks?
- Science
- Space Exploration
- Gadgets
- Technology Innovations
- Blockchain Technology
- Programming & Development
- Mathematics
- Artificial Intelligence
- Machine Learning
- Maker (i.e. Raspberry Pi & Arduino)
- 3D Printing
- Mobile Phone Technology
- Medical Advances
- Robotics
- Computing
The above are some suggestions but is not a comprehensive list. You can read this post for more information.
Earn STEM tokens passively
As STEMGeeks is a new tribe, it has fewer staked miners than most tribes. By acquiring and staking STEMM tokens, you are able to earn STEM passively through the mining pool. 20% of all inflation will go to staked mining token holders.
Miner Tokens Staked:
Tribe | Miner Units Staked |
---|---|
STEM | 1807 |
SCT | 283,834 |
LEO | 31,950 |
PAL | 2,847 |
WEED | 1,072 |
GG | 938 |
ZZAN | 3,714 |
Mining tokens can be un-staked and re-sold at any point.
You can also earn STEM by delegating to the @stembot voting bot.
Bounties
The STEMGeeks team (currently me) has allocated a generous portion of the initial supply to bounties Up to 4M tokens of the initial 10M supply is allocated to contests, rewards, promotion, onboarding, and bounties.
Burning tokens to reduce inflation
Currently, all rewards on the main @stemgeeks account and @stemcuration accounts are being burned. This includes post rewards and curation rewards. The curation account @stemcuration only has 50K STEM staked and will only vote occasionally (currently once or twice every few days with a very small percentage (1-10%). I plan to impact the reward pool as little as possible.
All bids (done in STEM) to @stembot voting bot are burned except for what goes out to delegators.
Onboarding
One of the goals of STEMGeeks is to provide a new unique way to onboard users to the Steem community. I am looking at opportunities to use STEMGeeks to get new users onboard. I am open to suggestions and can be reached on Discord. Once the dust settles I plan on devoting some time to this.
