Chemical Warfare Lizards

A friend send me this video today, featuring the freaking cool defense mechanism of the Golden tailed gecko, a lizard from Australia. Yeah, no surprises there, the place is full of weird creatures 😅

Anyways,enjoy:

Gooey, smelly, slightly irritant to the eyes but overall harmless... Almost like my...ahh...nevermind. 🍌 💦

This lizard reminded me of the Phrynosoma lizards I have blogged about many, many years ago.. These little fuckers actually squirt blood from their fucking eyes to deter pretadors:

At least 8 Phrynosoma species are able to squirt an aimed stream of blood from the corners of the eyes for a distance up to 5 ft (1.5 m). They do this by restricting the blood flow leaving the head, thereby increasing blood pressure and rupturing tiny vessels around the eyelids. The blood not only confuses predators but also tastes foul to canine and feline predators. It appears to have no effect against predatory birds. source and more info

That's even cooler if you ask me -

Here's a video from Natgeo showing one of them in action

Guess this is the closest thing we can get to a real life Superman shooting lasers from the eyes ? 😅

Ok, ok. I have kept the best for the last. Shooting stuff is cool, but you only get one chance to hit the target.

Well, there is one lizard that pulls the ultimate cheat for maximum AOE. The fart lizard spiny tailed gecko, which is closely to the gecko from the first video:

Mandatory @epic-fail tag for this one is mandatory 🌬️

Ok, that's enough chemical warfare lizards I think for today.

Hope you had some laughs. My initial plan was to write an opinion piece about the whole Israel-Palestine conflict but fuck that. We are doomed from too many fronts at this point anyways, I guess it only makes sense for humanity to hit the pedal harder and get this shit over one day sooner.
