What's up plebs?
Hope you are enjoying your last few days before world war three 😂
Anyways, I guess I'll continue with my regular shit posting routine and show you another one of my silver coins.
I have a nickname for today's piece. I call it the "here, have a church" coin. The why is pretty obvious:
So what's going on here?
Let's start by saying this is yet another commemorative 10 mark coin from Germany.
This one was minted in 2000 for the 1200th Anniversary since the founding of the Aachen Cathedral by Charlemagne. Damn, that's old! Actually one of the oldest:
Aachen Cathedral (German: Aachener Dom) is a Roman Catholic church in Aachen, Germany and the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Aachen. One of the oldest cathedrals in Europe, it was constructed by order of Emperor Charlemagne, who was buried there in 814. source and further reading
Notable, the cathedral was one of the first 12 items to be listed on the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites due to its exceptional artistry, architecture and historical significance.
Like with my coin, he is often depicted holding a church and after doing some digging it seems like the reason was that he was a big promoter of church, giving them land and power and stuff. I couldn't find any particular info for the icon in my coin but if I was to guess the other figure is Mary holding baby Jesus.
Moving back to the coin now, we have an engraved edge:
It reads
URBS AQUENSIS - URBS REGALIS
for
City of Aachen - Royal City
And as always, the other side features a unique design of the imperial chicken 🐔
Silverwise, we have 15.5 g of 0.925 purity. Pretty nice 😍💲
All in all, a beautiful design if you ask me!
Ok plebs, that's it for today. See you soon with more silver 🥈
