We are young?
I have no idea who "we" is but that can not be me. I have never been young. Already as a baby, I looked old (a premature does) and that tired, old look never left me.
I carried the family and world on my shoulders, the crazy, ungrateful, violent and dangerous mother and elderly sister included.
I have never been young and left the dangerous place.
I could easily do that. I never ended up on the street like a drunk, hooker or addict. I was born old. Not one single moment I thought I would not survive on my own. One of my wishes at that time was to never wake up at 5:30 am again!
How different it all worked out. I kept waking up at the most ridiculous times and by now, over 50 years later, I need to get out of my bed at 4 am! Being old does not help a bit. It is a lie elderly people need less sleep.
You are as young as you feel
I hear so many say. It is one of these phrases they spit out to make themselves feel better. In reality, they are ten times older as their thin, wrinkled and folded skin. The organ they try to cover underneath a mask of makeup, to color by catching sunburns, to change with help from plastic surgery and a makeover with. mini-skirts meant for 16 years old and... a shrink.
"Of course you are as young as you feel," the shrink says before he makes you pay for saying this but if you could read his mind...
We are young?
No, we are not. We are old souls, took of our bandages and back on earth to learn some lessons, improve ourselves to get wiser. Being young is not a part of this wisdom, you already had that about 13 lives earlier.
This is my entry to the daily 5-minute freewrite with the prompts "bandage" and "we are young". See for the daily freewrite @mariannewest.
