This is my 10th #nanowrimo day.
I wrote 2267 words.
All parts I wrote will end up in one long tale that might surprise me as much as you. I have no idea where the words hide before I start writing. There is no plan or storyline I use to make it easier for me. None of the characters I write about are familiar but they exist. I did not think them out first. They evaluate during writing. To your knowledge: I am not in a certain period in my life, I am not trying to survive a crisis, not drunk either or depressed. I am one of these writers who write everywhere. The car, bed, while baking French fries and if there is no room even the toilet.
Some stories I write without a break, others, like these, in-between washing dishes, picking up kids, cuddling wolves and wiping floors. I do not have the luxury of a desktop or laptop, so I can no longer speed up and multitask by typing with ten fingers and watching tv in the meanwhile. One single finger does all the work.
50,000 words I need at the end of this month. By now I wrote 22.218. I will not bore you or share all of them with you. Only the part where I used the two prompts given by @mariannewest. Happy writing to all of you.
I have no clue where this will end, it might not end at all. Some stories repeat themselves just like history, Mother Nature and the world itself. It is hard to be original.
"Boys, how good it is to see you.
I hope you had a great time. Let's go home. Your bedroom is ready, you can rest and I stay with you."
They didn't answer him but he knew they understood each word and felt relieved. If he wouldn't have known better he would swear they ran.
They were! They were running. Were they just happy to see him or hunted by something or someone?
"Easy boys, there is no need to rush we'll be home soon."
Instead of calming down they increased their speed and passed him by before he realized it.
"Boys! Wait for me, there is no need to hurry. Nothing happens to you."
He hesitated. Looked back and ran after them.
"Stop!"
This time the voice did not sound soft and kind.
"Don't you forget something, what kind of father are you?"
Abruptly he stood still, saw them running out of him but didn't follow.
"What do you mean? I need to take them home. I have no time for you and your riddles. Can't you see they are scared? Why should I listen to you anyway."
He had enough of the voice. It only showed up as it suited it. He would go after them, make sure they felt safe and give them a good, long rest.
"Go straight to your room, I will be home soon."
He projected the place into their mind, felt how it calmed them down.
"If you excuse him," he said while walking into the direction of his home, "I have better things to do."
"Better things to do? You better look behind you. I think you should see this and not leave hím behind."
Only a few yards away from him he stood and waited. Holding something in his hand. What was it he dragged whole the way home?
"What is it? What did you find?"
The giant did not answer but let go of it as soon as he stood in front of him. It was the weirdest thing he ever saw. Actually, he had no idea what it was.
"You brought me something special indeed," he said after he examined it closer. "My son you found life. Not the kind I expected but it is life."
It was grey and white and he remembered them for a very long time ago. Mushrooms! His mother had called them mushrooms. He wasn't sure if they were greens too and if they were edible. For some reason, they were attached to each other in a certain shape and did not let go. He spread the object on the ground.
"It is a suit. A mushroom suit," he mumbled, "well done my son. You scared the hell out of the rest but found life. A dead human to be precise."
A tear fell from his eyes as he looked at the giant.
"We leave it here, you did a good job. Let's go home and take a nap."
While he spoke to the creature he stroke it's hand and looked him into the eyes. For a second, he believed he saw a light shine in it and he felt closer to him as ever before. The whole way back home he held the giant's hand.
"Thank you," he whispered, "thank you for warning me. It would have broken my heart if I had left him behind."
The voice didn't answer but the ghost saw and heard what he said.
"So, you do have a favorite. Better take good care of him. Before you can blink your eyes he's gone."
