A new contest started and it is hosted by our dear @gertu. I hope you all will join.
What I do with roses...
Not much. I have some in my garden and I mainly let them grow in peace. The one with the dark red roses is huge, taller as me, the white and yellow ones struggle to grow and stay alive and are more vulnerable for diseases. I assume they taste good.
As the youngest held a rose in front of one of the dog's nose it sniffed at it and... ate it.
Thor seems to love roses.
As a child we made rosewater.
I no longer do that and I do not pick roses either. Flowers belong outside in nature not picked and stand in a vase and die. I van not believe spirits like picked flowers.
Plants, flowers feel pain and it is not made up.
The only thing I did make was from rosehips it was jam and syrup.
The last time I made it is about three till four years ago and we still have plenty of it left. We are not such a syrup and jam lovers and mainly drink water or tea.
Both we use once in a while on deserts. It contains a lot of vitamine C. I like the soft taste of it though. The syrup and jam is expensive if you buy it but easy to make.
Pick the rosehip after the first night frost (or use your freezer), cook with water till they are soft and press it through a sieve. Seeds etc stay behind.
You can make jam out of it like you are used to.
Out of what is left in the sieve I make syrup. It goes back into the pan with water and I cook it again on a low fire. Use the sieve again and make syrup out of it.
I must admit I am not a big fan of roses.
There is no need to give me any but they seem to do better as the rest I ever planted. I think somehow it has to do with the ground, something that is in it. They give a bit color to the place and the wolves do no longer run over them.
They eat the rosehips too but prefer me too pick them.
