Hey there my Steemit friends! In this "Real Life Captured Series" I do my best to bring you exactly that; the real life captured from destinations all around the world! After eleven years of travel experience my favorite thing to do is walk around! That's right, I simply like to go to foreign countries and walk around. I observe (and now photograph) the people, food, culture, and way of everyday life and bring it to you in this "Real Life Captured Series".
Here we find ourselves in Montevideo, the Capital of Uruguay. It's a small country, with a population of only about three and a half million. They have a very warm and European culture. The people were friendly, the streets were clean, and the food was very good! I felt welcome here and it is a place I would consider coming back to.
Uruguay considers themselves like the brothers of the Argentinian people. A total independent country yet very similar to their neighbors. One thing that separates them from Argentina is their love for Yerba Mate, an herb drink that is packed with caffeine. They drink twelve kilos of this per person per year! While their neighbors north in Southern Brazil, and to the west across Rio De La Plata, Argentinia drink about half that.
So if you you are wondering what some of the special cups and straws are and the thermos people are carrying around, it's all about the Yerba Mate! Besides that, the over all vibe of Uruguay is not very Latino, it's much more European. Even the people have no indigenous genetics and are almost entirely of Italian and Spanish decent.
Another thing that separates them from Peru to Mexico is they speak a dialect of Spanish that really screwed me up! I had no problem communicating in other Spanish speaking countries but once I got to Uruguay they could understand my textbook Spanish, but I could often barely figure out what they were saying. Anyway, let's get into these photos and have a look around. Let's Go!

There were a lot of OLD vehicles that looked like there was no way they would run, but they did!

Montevideo sticks out right into the Southern Atlantic Ocean.

There must have been some event Saturday night as this photo of men disassembling the set up was taken Sunday morning.

Well, hello there!

Real Life Captured! Waiting at the local bus stop.

Going downhill is easier!

One of many local produce shops. Western prices do apply, kind of. Peru, Ecuador, Guatamala, Colombia, Mexico have some of the best and least expensive produce in Latin America.

I don't think I can transfer photos to my laptop with that!

Jesus is popular in this country.

With over 11 years of travel experience I answer travel and international lifestyle questions. Leave a question in the comments and I may make a Steemit post just for you!
THANK YOU
