One of the things I love about Steem time is how much can happen in just a few short weeks even with the Christmas and New Year holiday slowing the rest of the world down. Since the last chat we’ve seen:
- a perceived threat of a hardfork to remove stake for Steemit Inc
- a response from Steemit Inc by initiating a power down
- uproar in response to the power down by the community
- the appearance of @ned in the community after a period of silence
- the beginnings of what is expected to develop into a Foundation for the community
- changes in leadership at Steemit Inc.
- and let’s not forget the price of Steem started to move upward.
I was pleased to welcome not only the witnesses to the Witness Chat but also @elipowell and @andrarchy from Steemit Inc. Elizabeth spent longer than expected talking about Steemit Inc and taking questions from the audience. A lot of ground was covered during that time. Many mentioned after she had left they felt more hopeful about Steemit Inc and the relationship with the community.
You’ll need to take the time to listen to the recording to capture all that was talked about but I will comment on a few items addressed:
- Steemit Inc has NOT been sold to Samsung
- the interface steemit.com will not be sunset as originally believed. Steemit Inc will be upgrading it and further developing it.
- SMTs are still a part of the plan going forward — more information will be forthcoming but the cost cutting phase has to finish first
