A relaxing Sunday

Had a nice before and after the 4:49 wake up for medicine alarm. Later in the morning after a wash up and a couple of coffees followed up by oatmeal and sliced banana some chores on the internet were made. The big one was registering for an MMSI ID. What are MMSIs? An explanation follows from the fcc.gov site:

Maritime Mobile Service Identities (MMSIs) are nine-digit numbers used by maritime digital selective calling (DSC), automatic identification systems (AIS) and certain other equipment to uniquely identify a ship or a coast radio station. MMSIs are regulated and managed internationally by the International Telecommunications Union in Geneva, Switzerland, just as radio call signs are regulated.

There were a couple of questions, like passenger capacity and tonnage which Pierre cleared up for me yesterday. Evidently it signifies how many of the crew can be berthed.

By having a proper MMSI then the DSI distress signal can be used to identify your vessel but also GPS position it via satellite. There are other advantages as well as it being required regulation for VHF use.

Next on the radio list is to schedule the exam for the ROC(M) radio course, which was taken while in Scarborough. That license is required to legally use VHF channels.

Marine radio is not as relaxed and more regulated than Citizen Band (CB) radio frequencies.

Felt a little munchy so had my favorite morning dish, oatmeal and sliced banana. Did a little more research on the housing market on YouTube and made the happy mistake of doing it laying down on the my rarely used salon bench. Of course barely got through the first video before going down for a wonderfully restive siesta.

Did some internet-ting and YouTubing until pill time at 16:49. After getting another pill in me, then headed up to the Marina's Office to check out their great library of business cards hoping to find a mechanic. To my surprise the office was closed due to it being Sunday no doubt. Just spoiled by my old marina in Scarborough being there 8:00 till 20:00 seven days a week. It can wait for tomorrow though.

Not sure if my body was feeling undernourished or had a bad case of munchie, but did a lot of snacking over the late afternoon and into the early evening. With all the digging in the ice box managed to clean it up and out a bit.

Hopefully my sails may be ready for pick up tomorrow. It will be still nice to see a mechanic about my throttle cables yet we could move along, perhaps, to Montreal to do it there. Going through the locks it may be better to wait here until that is done. At least Makina could be moved to the Kingston Marina where James is docked. You have easy access to all levels of shopping down that way as well as James' good company.

May the wind be at your back!
