A light fog was in the harbour yesterday. With it came a dampness that heightened the chill of the 10C temperature.
Having not posted much over the winter there has been no mention of some installations done on Makina. The electric anchor winch has been covered yet turning the icebox into a functioning fridge was not; nor one of my favorites, the diesel heater. Today was just the day for it's use.
Diesel heaters can be very costly, running over a couple thousand dollars. The Vevor is a Chinese knock off. It was almost a 10th of the regular price. Not meaning to jynx it, but it ran like a trooper through the winter making living on Makina very cozy. For early spring or late fall sailing it seems almost a must.
It was installed in the rear lazarette just in case anything should go wrong both flames and fumes would be well away from the main cabin. We also ran the panel wiring into the main cabin so that controlling it would not require venturing out into the cold.
Just because it was cozy on the home front did not allow me to lounge there all day. Supplies were a bit low and it seemed like a smart idea to check where the diesel pumps were at the local shipyard. The idea is to drop round Monday to fill my diesel jugs.
Supplies were easy to obtain yet the pumps could not be spotted at the locked up shipyard. They did have a beautiful schooner, the size of the Bluenose II, up on their slip. There would always be tomorrow to track the pumps down or the shipyard could be called before going over on Monday.
So it was back to Makina to sit out the rest of this damp and chilly day doing the usual of gaming, snacking and napping.
