Another Season Begins

It is feeling like perhaps a bear might feel when coming out of the their cave and exploring the awakening spring. For those that don't know my winter was spent as a live-a-board at a wet berth at Armdale Yacht Club in Halifax, NS.

Makina at AYC's Winter Wet Berth

We said goodbye to our property of 38 years last November.

It has now been erased by the Corporation who wanted it.

One might expect a degree of sadness from leaving all the memories from 38 years of living there. Yet it has not been so much the case. My feeling is the reason for that is that Makina had become my new home even before our property had sold. Makina is often affectionately referred to as my floating condo.

My Daughter, Son-In-Common-Law, Big Boy the cat and myself stayed onboard for most of the winter. We eventually settled on a replacement property for my Daughter and Son-In-Common-Law as spring approached.

Previous followers may remember a mention of James. We met in Kingston and shared company along the passage to Nova Scotia from time to time. Makina arrived in Halifax three weeks prior to James' arrival. He decided not to push on south so late in the season and we ended up being boat neighbours for the winter.

James is planning on striking out for Bermuda around the 12th of this month with an experienced crew of two others. His goal is the circumnavigation of the globe.

Prior readers will also remember The Admiral (Pierre). He had been a great help in my passage from Toronto to Halifax last autumn. We had been shipmates for a number of weeks during the passage up until Gaspe.

Pierre arrived from Ottawa last Monday. We are planning to sail down the south shore of Nova Scotia starting this Friday. My Daughter and Son-In-Common-Law will join us to experience sailing for the first time. It has me excited to soon to be back on the water again.

Be sure that my postings will keep you up to date on this season's adventures.

May the wind be at your back!
