Canada Day Passage

It's been 3 days since my last log entry, so let's catch up!

Mon. June, 30, 2025

Liv must have made a typo when texting me that we would be leaving Monday morning. Was up pretty early to make sure the electrical was in shape for leaving and fully charged. Replied to her text a little before her departure time of 9:00 saying that she coulld meet me at the Yacht Club's dock. She replied that she was planning on leaving Tuesday and not Monday. Once that was straightened out then it was back to Makina to monitor the electrical and eventually set up a session on Ashes of Creation with my Daughter and Son-In-Common-Law.

There is expected to be a wipe of all characters going into Alpha 2 Phase 3, so we don't invest too much energy in it; yet it is fun to go out hacking and being able to chat it up through Discord's Voice Chat. We ended up partying until almost midnight. They said that things were in place for them to join me in Shelburne. We decided to approach that toward the end of the week once back from the passage to Lockeport with Liv.

Tues. July 1, 2025

Things came into motion at about 9:00 and by 10:00 or so we had a crew of 5 with their Captain aboard Liv's vessel. We made way out Shelburne Harbour under sail, tacking against a headwind.

It was worth the added effort as the wind died off once away from the harbour on our course up the coast to Lockport. What we did have was a bank of thick fog settling in.

With no wind we dropped our sails and powered the way cautiously forward to Lockport. Glad we were of the sailing we were able to get today.

The Canada Day Race running from Shelburne to Lockeport was an annual event. With the lack of wind and thick fog this year we were surprised to find only one other boat than our own which had made the full passage up from Shelburne. They, too, were not officially in the race, yet had made the journey all the same. A small award may have been in order. At least someone would have won something. šŸ™ƒ

The plus side was there was lots of space in the Lockport docks to accommodate us.

It was getting on supper time when we made Lockeport so all but Eric, Liv's Dad, went to the White Gull to have a well deserved meal. My fresh haddock was to die for!

With our bellies full it was time to take in some of the Canada Day Celebrations. The fireworks had been postponed due to the fog yet the band that was there kept rockin' even during the rain; as did the audience.

From my own stash as well as some gummies supplied by Liv, by midnight it felt time to find my way home and find my bunk.

Liv honored me with the forward V Berth!

Tues. July 2, 2025

With a good sleep behind us Liv called the crew to stations at around 9:00.

The fog had subsided yet no wind was to be found until we reach the coastline just outside Shelburne Harbour. Due to the large size of the harbour this allowed us a fine sail back to Liv's mooring with only one tack required. It was a great finish to a great passage.

It had been a great time shared with some great folks.

It should be mentioned that this was the first time since purchasing Mekina that we had been parted for longer than 24 hours. Although the passage to Lockport had been marvelous it had that coming home feel to be back aboard her.
