Change of plan

Kind of a day behind in my log entries...

July 3, 2025

A little slower to get moving today, perhaps because of higher summer temperatures. After hitting the showers and heading up to the BeanDock Cafe, it surprised me to find that the breakfast menu had closed due to the hour. Instead of a breakfast my choice was their delicious egg salad sandwich. It was both a breakfast and lunch all rolled into one.

Checked my phone while awaiting my meal and was pleasantly surprised to see that Liv had send me some pics of our passage to Lockport on Canada Day. Pretty stoked to have one of me sailing her magnificent vessel...

Sailing Liv's Marvellous Vessel

Returned to Makina to wait for the heat of the day to pass. Cleaned out the icebox/fridge which had been turned off during the electrical debugging of late. By mid-afternoon it seemed a reasonable temperature to make the walk across town to the grocery store and cannabis shop.

Coming back from the store came across two house painters and approached them with the idea of going up my mast with their 40 foot ladder to retrieve my halyard stuck up there. They took my number and said that they would run it by their boss.

Continued on to Makina. With fresh supplies stowed aboard, did a reach out to my Daughter so as to chat about our upcoming sailing plans.

After talking with Derryck, Eric and others about the passage to Digby, it has become clear that it will not be a happy-go-lucky voyage. There will be tide schedules that need to be strictly enforced and currents to be avoided. As this will be only the second passage for my Daughter and Son-In-Common-Law it did not seem the best route to take them on at this stage. Something a little less stressful seemed in order.

There had also been another life signal two days ago of a 72 year old man sailing his boat upon rocks off Yarmouth and sinking. Wearing no life jacket he, sadly, drowned. Being that age myself the message was not lost upon me.

This rethinking lead me to feel that a sail north towards Lunenburg and hopefully on to Mahone Bay would be a better and a more relaxing idea. The Fundy and Digby's tides can wait until moving south this fall. My Daughter agreed and looked forward to joining me soon; perhaps this weekend.

The rest of the late afternoon had me lounging on board, with a little napping, and then later in the evening a little gaming. A low keyed kind of day yet with some important decisions made.
