Finally the winds subside

It was overlooked, in my last posting, that when coming ashore a lady who was just readying her dingy to leave and myself got to talking. She had a real mariner's sack which she explained was her laundry; just freshly washed at Zwicker's. She explained that Zwicker's had a $10/day service whereby one could use the showers and laundry facilities even if not actually with a berth at their wharf but so long as you had a mooring ball in the harbour. After almost a week of sink splashes on board Makina, this was music to my ears (and possibly the same for the general population of Lunenburg as well). ☺️

Got squared up with the Zwicker Staff and received a door code for the following day. However yesterday was not the kind of day to be thinking about rowing to town in my easily wind blown rubber dingy.

Weather Conditions in Lunenburg - May 23rd

Did you notice SIXTY KM/H WIND GUSTS WITH 100% P.O.P.!!!???!!! 😜

It felt like a slightly tamed down version of my crossing the Gulf of St. Lawrence last autumn on my passage to Halifax. The water was not as choppy but with Makina held to her mooring ball she felt like a uncooperative horse on hind legs pulling on it's held reins. She would lean back low at the stern which would pull up the bow until the mooring lines curtailed her movements to bring the bow crashing down. It very much felt like cutting through heavy chop.

There was no way in the gods green earth that you would find me bobbing about the Lunenburg harbour in this blow. My shower would have to wait. And so the heater was fully refueled and the engine left to run a while to fully charge the batteries. It was gaming, YouTube binging, snacking and napping time.

Awoke this morning to find that the wind had blown itself out. Headed to shore at about 9:00. The staff at Zwicker's were not yet in but to my glee my access code to the showers was still valid. The water was deliciously scalding and the body wash well overdue. In one word it was fabulous!

After the shower the post office was visited. They are closed over weekends yet it appears the strike is, at this point, a slowdown and not a full picketed strike. My hope is that my package can be retrieved on Monday.

Headed back towards Zwicker's passing by the legendary Bluenose II.

The plan was to try to put a TODO List together for the weekend. Engine maintenance was high on the priority list as well as being well overdue. Most of the hours since the last maintenance were spent in idling to charge the batteries and not putting any great load or rpms on the engine; yet sticking to the maintenance schedule while breaking in a new engine is good policy.

Before leaving the dingy dock at Zwickers the opportunity was taken to bring my dingy up on the dock and tip it over to drain all the rain water that had accumulated in it over the last couple of rainy days.

With my morning exercise session only a row back to Makina away it was back to the floating condo to relax and plan out my weekend's activity.

May the wind be at your back!
