Regrouping

It has become a bit of a tradition when a crew departs to take a day and regroup somewhat. Yesterday was not an exception yet it came with some surprises. There was lots of eating, napping and early to bed. My feeling in hindsight was that it was a day to reenergize after trying to keep up with that dynamo... The Admiral.

It had not occurred to me how non-stop he is during his day. No wonder so much seems to get accomplished with him around. 😊

The rest and food had good results. It had me waking up early and refreshed on this foggy morning.

Foggy day at mooring - Shelburne, Nova Scotia

After making it into the Club for a shower and laundry it was back to Makina to lay out some plans for when my Daughter and Son-In-Common-Law join me. When talking with them online, yesterday, it seemed they were making arrangements with my Son-In-Common-Law's Sister to act as their cat sitter.

They are both novices to sailing and one important aspect of passage planning was to not overwhelm them. It's my hope that a 30NM passage would be reasonable for a novice crew in good weather. The newly installed yankee jib will allow the option of keeping the Gonoa Jib down to make solo sailing very doable.

One nice destination looked to be Port La Tour.

A comment from my Navigation App:

"We did get here because of bad weather to get round cape sable. It is a fishing port, with our 6 feet draft we did not need more water than the bigger lobster boats. The people are very friendly and welcoming. Expect to tie beside a fishing boat. We did get power and fresh fish as well."

With Makina's 4.5' draft there should be more than enough water for her.

Chart's course from Shelburne to Port La Tour, Nova Scotia

Port La Tour is a 27.9NM passage from Shelburne. That seemed like a good first port. It would probably be about one of three days on the passage to Yarmouth and that number again to our final destination of Digby.

Neil had to cancel our get-together last night as a friend of his had a medical emergency. He hoped to be able to follow through with our plans this evening.

Will log how that went in tomorrow's log.

Until then...

May the wind be at your back!
