Underway... eventually.

Now before anyone may judge me for departure delays, it should be mentioned that my attitude is that this is the Kids' vacation not mine. In that regard our scheduling has been around them; not me.

In recent days one might say that there has been a little biting at the bit by me to get back on the open toss. The Kids' late night had the effect of delaying it. They seem to have settled into Makina like a comforting cradle.

A rested crew is a happy crew

The tab had been settled yesterday so we paid for one more day at the docks. Yesterday had me officially enrolled as a member of the Shelburne Yacht Club. As Chris and myself get Transport Canada's records up to date, perhaps Shelburne shall be named Makina's home port. A Club Burgee was purchased to proudly fly.

With a well rested crew we prepared for departure pre-9:00. Water was topped up and once electrical unplugged we motored to the gas dock to replenish our diesel jugs. Another priveledge of membership was a nice reduction of diesel cost.

It was then back to the dock to pick up Jan who had been at the shower and off we headed into this calm and overcast day.

Departing Shelburne Harbour

Once out of the harbour the fog became very thick.

The Kids took the opportunity of some napping in the rocking swell found once outside the harbour as we plied through the thick fog on passage to Lockeport with little wind and under power.

The crew, well rested, performed impeccably at docking, taking the same berth as we had with Liv on our Canada Day visit.

We went ashore to the White Gull, which we had visited on Canada Day and had a lovely meal yet took home even lovelier deserts!

It was a rainy blow from the NorthEast through the night. It is forecast to turn to the East by mid-afternoon. Thought to get underway as that is happening and make it to Brooklyn tonight. It is a little over 20NM so it seems doable.

Until then...
