The year is almost gone. Two more days and we will embrace a new beginning. But, let's not forget that today it's also Saturday, time for another S. A. M. #Sam-Saturday challenge initiated by my friend @bluemoon is really addictive. 🙂
Since I will combine again two challenges in one post (my #seasonchallenge being the second one), I will share another winter passion of mine: ice skating.
Being born in a mountain town, winter sports were the only thing we had in mind from late November until early April. Sledges, skis or ice skates can be found everywhere. Every single spot of ice or snow was used for having fun or getting bruises.
The grown-ups were also joining the winter fun so I have really wonderful memories from those golden times.
I especially remember one winter. It snowed for three days in a row so the snow covered everyrhing. Blocked roads, closed schools...what else can a toddler ask for? Despite my parents' interdiction to leave the house premises, I went on an adventure with my friends: skating on the river's frozen waters. Sometimes I think about that saying: when a child is christened, he or she receives a guardian angel. Mine was definitely very busy. 🙂
The river is close to my home so after 5 minutes we were on its shore. With the air temperature around - 20 Celsius degrees, we were sure the waters are frozen. And they were...
Two minutes later, we put our skates on and went straight to the middle of the river. Fresh air, no wind, all was still and quiet. Everything was perfect, except the thin layer of ice which barely covered the water. Luckily, the place we chose is not dangerous, the water not being very deep (half of meter top). Also, our parents saw us leaving and followed us.
I can still see my poor dad dragging a sledge full of freezing wet toddlers. And you know what was really funny? We did not catch a cold and school was opened next day. 😒
I still go skating although this year I did not get the chance so far. But time is not lost. As soon as the winter holidays are gone, I will grab my skates and go to the first skating rink I find. No more rivers or lakes though. 🙂
Check out the challenge started by me and @erikah, SeasonChallenge. We would love to learn about your impressions towards the Winter (these being the theme until 28th of February).
