Hunting Midnight is a pretty big project. Something like 200,000 words of fiction, slowly being released and published on the Hive blockchain at a rate of ~3,000 words a week. Plus weekly giveaways. Plus NFT Bookmarks. Plus other stuff!
So, I figured a little "roadmap" was warranted. This will give my followers, the Hunting Midnight readlist, and anyone else who stumbles upon this a sense of what to expect over the coming year of paranormal spunkiness.
🏆 New contests: review & readlist drives!
I will be experimenting with offering Hive prizes or bounties for people who are:
- willing to write honest reviews of Hunting Midnight (posted on Hive)
- able to get a friend to join the HM readlist
I plan to try these ideas out in between HM Episodes, so they won't happen all that often.

📅 Story release schedule
Hunting Midnight is broken into "episodes." This is a fancy way of saying "books" I suppose. As of this post's publication, we are almost done Episode One, The Ghost in the Clock.
There are eight (or maybe even nine) total episodes planned. I have written about 6 and a half. Episodes 1–3 are polished and ready to go. Episodes 4–6 are in good shape, but could stand another editing pass. Episode 7 is in progress, and the rest exist only as notes.
⏳ I will take breaks in between episodes, to:
- Experiment and run the review and readlist drive contests mentioned above
- Develop the art and NFT approach to the upcoming episode
- Possibly create NFTBooks of the preceding episode
- Possibly attempt some media tours outside of Hive, aiming to use HM to bring new users to our little slice of the web3 world
All that said, my estimated 2023 schedule is as follows:
- Week of Jan 23: Finish Episode 1, set up new contests, art, etc.
- Week of Feb 6: Start publishing Episode 2 which has 15 parts
- Week of Mar 6: Finish Episode 2, take a break per items above
- Week of Mar 13: Start Episode 3 which has 22 parts
- Week of Apr 24: Finish Episode 3
- Week of May 1: Start Episode 4 which has 15 parts
- Week of May 29: Finish Episode 4
Updated to account some life events. Things are good, but priorities have shifted.
- Week of Jul 5: Start Episode 5 which has 24 parts
- Week of Aug 7: Finish Episode 5. Longer summer break is likely, so I can assess how much writing/editing needs to be done, do some of it, etc. Plus, it's summer! 🌞😎
- Late 2023: Start Episode 6 which has 26 parts
- 2024: Release Episodes 7, 8, and 9: schedule TBD
The @jfuji.writes account
I've set up a separate account that will start to receive the majority of rewards from my fiction and contest posts (via post beneficiaries). This account will focus on storing value in its HBD savings account. After it reaches a decent amount, I'll use some of the generated interest to fund prizing and promotion of my stories.
This separation of accounts helps for transparency, security, and organization of my fiction initiatives on Hive.
Episode title teases
Here are the working titles of the written episodes:
- 👻 The Ghost in the Clock
- 💛 Girl of Gold
- 🍃 The Trouble with Vines
- 💠 All Squares are Diamonds
- 👑 An Alliance of Queens
- 🦞 The Lobster Manifesto
- 🏛️ Summit of the Manyrealms
- ???
- ?!?
🎁 Hive token and NFT contests
As many of you know, each week I (try) to run a giveaway wherein you leave your favourite line(s) of the story as comment. This gets you into a raffle for a main prize. You can also earn bonus spins through sharing HM content on social media, being on the readlist, etc.
I've put these on pause as interest seemed to be waning and the effort required to manually run the contests was starting to drag on my time. I'll definitely continue to think of new and interesting ways to reward reader though!
