Welcome to Glitch #309 as part of Week 45.
❓When you’re faced with important decisions in your business, have you caught yourself thinking:
- “I can’t handle it.” or
- “I couldn’t handle it, IF (name a scenario)”
Difficult decisions can cause us to “lock up.”
On the day after Halloween, the Christmas movies are back in full force! Heck, they often start before Halloween. I know this because I love Christmas movies. In “A Boy Named Christmas,” Dame Maggie Smith is telling a story to a group of children when conflict arises in the arc of the story.
The kids to whom she’s telling the story cut her off abruptly and ask ahead for the outcome of the scene she was describing. With despair, they share, "If [that] happens, we couldn’t handle it." To which she replies, “You can handle anything because you’ve handled everything.”
Up until this point in your business, you've been handling all the things that have happened. Does it mean it’s been perfect or you’ve done it well or correctly? Maybe not. But you made those decisions, and either benefited or suffered the consequences.
🎯 Goal: Decisions empower us no matter the results. If you made a decision that strengthens the situation, Bravo! If not, you’ve likely learned something from it. Onward and Upward!
📌 Actionable Items: What makes decision-making successful is thinking through possible outcomes, good and bad. Being in denial doesn’t mean the negative outcome won’t happen, and freezing up isn’t a solution either. In fact, it's a decision to not make a decision.
This could create an outcome you didn't consider which could result in a victimhood mentality if things get even more complicated.
A decision tree could help to “unlock” your awesomeness to get the task/consideration complete in order to move forward. What could this look like?
Step 1: What is your objective? What do you hope to achieve?
Step 2: Data, data, data! Information and data help you consider all possible options.
Step 3: Results: benefits and/or consequences. List them!
