Recently i have been hearing a lot about how much voting power a person had on Steemit and i was finding it very hard to understand since there was hardly any clear explanations about what it actually is in simple terms. For any people who don't know what Steemit is, it's a social media website which pays you to post.
What is steemit?
Steemit is just like any other social media website but they appreciate the time and effort you put into each post and so they reward you for it!!
What is voting power?
Pretty much i will say what it is in very simple terms and what i understand in that subject but I really do think it is this simple. The more money the person has invest in steem cryptocurrency which is in their wallet on the site then the more voting power they have. Voting power refers to how much money do you give someone from each of your upvotes. So since you have a lot of money invested in steem the more powerful you will be and each of your upvotes will be worth a lot more. It is really that simple.
Is their a limit on how many times you can upvote something?
Yes there is a limit but don't worry its probably way higher then you were thinking. As you vote (upvote) a post your voting percentage goes down so say if at the start of the day you are at 100% and every time you voting when your percentage is at 100% you can give $4.5 per upvote but as your voting percentage decreases then you voting power decreases as well (simple term the amount of money you give per upvote decreases) So you can continuously upvote things everyday but just remember every time you upvote something the next person you upvote will get less so that's why you save your voting power for better posts that deserve it (hopefully like mine :D). You might be thinking "ah that sucks" but don't worry because everyday your voting percent goes back up 20% so say if one day your voting percent did go down to 0 you only have to wait 5 days and it will be back at 100% again!!
