The Beginning
It is incredible that it has been just slightly over a month now since the rebirth of this wonderful and awesome community of @steemitmamas. I still remember discord messaging @littlenewthings on the 13th of May like it was just yesterday asking for her help to start and set up a new discord community. She was at that time in Ipoh helping out her parents as they need to go for some medical tests. Not wanting to disturb her, I just told her to let me know when she was back in KL.
It was a typical workday for me the next day when suddenly I got a WhatsApp message from her telling me that she was back early in KL as her parent's medical test was rescheduled. Shen then wrote the magic words "Lemme know if you need your server setup ASAP" I breathed a prayer of thanks and quickly made arrangements to meet her for coffee after dinner. As always all these things would not be possible without the loving support o my husband who helped to look after the kiddos and put them to sleep. It was a good thing too because we both didn't get home till well past midnight that day. Bless her soul @littlenewthings for her generosity of time and spirit of sharing knowledge. I really resonate with her on her views of community and decentralisation. I hope to be able to carry the same torch over into this new community initiative.
The server started out with just the five of us working together and the team dynamics was amazing! We didn't really know each other well but somehow our shared beliefs and mindset about Steemit and community gave us incredible synergy. Everyone gave their all, picking up where another could not do and all the whilst cheering each other on in the process of becoming good friends. Then many other mothers and supporters who were pushing us and rooting for us to get the server up and running, joined us. The trust from them was overwhelming and humbling.
Starting our community account
Our community account @steemitmamas was birthed exactly a month ago on the 24th of May and has been very active. If you are interested to understand more what we are about, please check out our Introduction Post. Since then we are so grateful that our community has received incredible support and is steadily growing.
We started writing curation posts of our members right off the bat. Our objective was, of course, to encourage more Mamas to post and invite their friends to join us. Here is our latest Curation Post #4 which was selected from our photography channel.
After that we got our first guest writer to contribute her writing focused on "the importance of community". We basically pay half the SBD payout of the post to our guest authors as an incentive. About 4 days ago we proudly made our first guest payout from the community account. You can read about our proud moment here.
Our current De-Cluttering Challenge is also ongoing too, as mothers were chatting about getting organised and de-cluttering our homes. @metzli our wonder mama basically comes up with specific tasks to do to get us started on a paradigm shift and as she puts it "Get Help From Your Friends Challenge" This is basically a 7 day challenge to de-clutter and we are now on Day 6. Fee free to jump in and join the fun!
As love gift to one of our core team member (@crosheille) @metzli initiated a totally sensible gambling game to guess when she would give birth to her baby girl. Mamas who wanted to give could do so by sending 1 SBD and the date of their choice. The winner would be the one who guessed the correct date and would split the entire pot with @crosheille. We know how to make things fun and exciting! Even the simple act of showing love and support to one another. There was a birth announcement and of course the prize payout post.
New additions to the @SteemitMamas team
As the community continued to grow, the core team started to feel the strain of work/caring for our kids and generally the continuous late nights early mornings I mean, of just looking after community. It is tough navigating an international community that has multiple time zones, some as much as 15 hours apart! So we are really happy to be able to add another 5 more members to the team.
We lured them by telling them that the work was incredibly easy and super fulfilling! Not to mention our discord server bar that they could expect digital pineapple beers and all forms of alcohol! Now that they have agreed and are here, they are now bound for life regardless of the reality! 😆 Hahaha! But seriously we are grateful that they said "YES!" and are making this community even more awesome with their strengths and diversity. 💪
We are now able to provide more engagement and support to Mamas around the globe. Incidentally, we are looking for one more Mama to join the team. If you do know anyone from Europe, please let me know. The time differences are killing me! 😴 But really, we do believe in a community that survives far beyond us and welcome more Moms who want to be part of the team as we continue to world domination!

Where we are now...
This community is building a safe place for Mamas from all over the world. Our challenges are really unique and mothers have so much to offer. Recently we have been dreaming up ideas like helping Mamas to build seven different income streams! We believe that mothers should have the choice to stay home with their children or go off to work.
We are also looking forward to more collaborations with Team Malaysia MyJuniors and NeedleWorkMondays. There has even been talk about an e-book publishing company because of the great content that we are all producing. There are also plans for events and meetups...with the kiddos of course. Who knows we might even have our own tokens?!! One definitely can dream and if The Man Cave is any indication, the sky is the limit! If you think that mothers have great potential and want to work with us or collaborate, please get in touch! We are looking for ways to benefit more families and if the mother is well then all is well with the family!
