An old classic cafe with exceptionally good food is always irresistible to a foodie like me. This cafe at Perak Lane which I am about to introduce later happens to be one of the few options on my food list. It has been quite some time since I last visited this cafe for its famous fish head rice vermicelli. This evening, as usual, the cafe is full of its loyal customers. I barely find an empty seat to sit my ass down.

美食和傳統老店的結合,似乎有著一種不可分割的關係。在如今兩者都賣少見少的年代,若能有幸碰上,除了跟它吃上三百回合,我實在想不出有更好的辦法。所幸,在我寒舍不遠處,正正有著一間咖啡廳,其聞名於世的魚肉米粉,可說是無人不知,無人不曉。反正都已經好久沒吃上一回,今天的晚餐就點妳吧。到了目的地,一如往常的,整間咖啡店內座無虛席,放眼一看,才勉強找到了位子坐下。

I ordered a bowl of rice vermicelli soup with deep fried fish, whereas my friend ordered a bowl of instant noodles soup with big shrimp. Basically, two of them shared the same broth, but then based on what you ordered, the chef will cook your broth with different kind of proteins accordingly, so their flavor is also sort of different. Long story short, what makes them so scrumptious and mouthwatering?

The aromatic smell and the fusion of taste from the mixture of sesame oil and garlic oil, the significant savory seafood flavor within broth. I can’t really describe it well enough, but just take a sip of the broth and you can literally taste tons of flavor partying in your mouth. Besides, the broth is well-absorbed into the rice vermicelli and noodles, not to mention how delicious the proteins are. The deep-fried fish nuggets are crispy, the fresh big shrimps are so tender. Try eating them all together in one bite, and if you think you need an extra kick to enhance the flavor, you may add a little soy sauce and some chopped Thai bird’s eye chilies on it. I guarantee you, it certainly will become one of your must-eat on your list.

我點了一碗魚肉米粉湯,友人則點了一碗快熟麵條加大蝦。 由於食客眾多,大約等了15分鐘,伙計才將兩碗美食送上,但為了吃好料,值得!!! 放眼一看,真的沒什麼了不起,雖說人不可貌相,但我認為要公平,食物也是一樣的。從嗅覺上來說,可以明顯聞到麻油味和蒜頭油的香味,喝上一口湯,就大約可以想像得到這湯底到底是熬製了幾百多年,看下去雖然是清澈的,但這湯的味道卻濃郁得很過分,而且我這碗和友人點的,味道又稍有不同,我這碗味道很魚,友人點的那碗除了很魚還很蝦,感覺更好吃啊,立馬就搶了半碗過來試試。味道上,我只吃的出有麻油味,蒜頭油味,還有濃郁的海鮮味,感覺好像簡單了點;但話說回來,海鮮嘛,最重要的就是要吃到那個鮮味,太多調味和其它的味道反而會掩蓋了本來的鮮味,這樣倒不如不吃,更何況,越是簡單的就越難煮啊。再說這湯頭已經濃郁到不行了。

另外,這魚肉炸得香而脆,蝦呢則超級鮮嫩,不管選的是米粉或面,裡面都把湯頭吸得滿滿的。基本上,一口魚或蝦,搭上一口米粉或面,再加上一口濃郁的湯頭,放入口中咀嚼後,味蕾上引爆的刺激,猶如在舌頭上開生日派對,吃過一次真的是會回味無窮。此時如果再加上一點醬油提味,再放上一顆小辣椒增加後勁,整體的味道將會提升到另一個層次。
There is actually a lot more variety on the menu, you can choose crab or minced pork instead of fish or shrimp, the given carbohydrates included rice vermicelli, noodle or congee. Random combination of those is available based on your preference. Make sure you come to try it !!!
