5-Minute Freewrite Prompt: Good Morning, Sunshine!

It has been days of storms and rains. Some places even got invaded by the merciless typhoons and floods were on the rise. Everyone could only hope that the shelter they were under were good enough to cover them till this devastating weather is over.

Dorcas saw a roof just flew by before her eyes. The rain had no sign of stopping and the wind was howling. Thunders and lightnings were ongoing as if they were summoned by Zeus. She tried to keep herself and the children warm at home, but at the same time she had been so worried about her husband who was out at a hunt. The last she heard from him was two days ago and since then, communication was cut off and the government had declared a state of emergency. She prayed so hard and hoped really for the best that somehow he managed to get shelter in the jungle as he had gone hunting with some friends.

"Please be okay, darling. For me and the children. God, You got to be with him, be his guide, be his light unto his feet!" she whispered.

Meanwhile, Tom didn't anticipate this weather to just suddenly crash on him and his hunting entourage. They were camping when the storm suddenly hit and it was so heavy that they had to run into a cave for shelter. However, the rainwater went into the cave, becoming a flood and they were forced to go further in. They got really stranded and had to dive in darkness if they were to get out. Food supply was running low and the oxygen were also depleting. He thought they were really going to die after not seeing the sun for days.

The rain finally came to an end and a rescue team went out to search for them. Tom tried to send emergency signal but to no avail. They were hanging on to just one lamp which was about to be gone too once the last bit of kerosene is used up. Their touch lights were wet and not functioning.

Being someone who has abandoned God and tried to strive for his own life for years, Tom suddenly remembered that this phrase that light will shine its brightest in darkness. He remembers Him as his Light despite the literal darkness he was in. He reminds himself that God is the lamp unto his feet. He will not die as long as he hangs on to this hope. Dorcas would send people for him. She always says hope deferred makes the heart sick, where a human is, there is light. because every human has the ability and capacity to hope. He remembers his wife of faith. Her hope burnt in him when he had nothing left.

"Hello? Is there anyone here?"

Finally, Tom was found with his friends. A diving team was sent to rescue them. He saw his silver lining. The sun ray was so glaring for his eyes which had become accustomed to darkness for days. First thing he said after he was out with the rest was, "Good morning, sunshine. I have missed you." That he said, literally to the sun, God and also Dorcas who was waiting in front of the cave.

This is a fiction written into a tribute to the youths who were trapped in the cave for two weeks in Thailand. I can never imagine how desperate they were and how they hung on to the slightest hope. It is also my tribute to the former Navy SEAL who gave up the supply of oxygen in order to deliver more oxygen to them and sacrificed his life. You may read more about the whole story herewhich is covered by BBC. I read and teared.

Freewrite is a prompt writing initiated by @mariannewest and @improv to write a free-flow post without correcting or editing. I checked out her post to really get what it is before I jumped on the bandwagon. Basically, there is no right or wrong, just let the mind and fingers do their work, to find our creative self and let it come out of us.
