Lord Vulcan leaned forward on his throne and eyed the two prisoners as they were held at the foot of the steps.
“Bring them up here, Bear.”
“Come on…” Bear said and led them up the steps and positioned them directly in front of the Vulcans.
“Now…” Lord Vulcan began as he met Captain K’s eyes. “You and your friends are not here by invitation, nor did you seek permission to land on my island.” He shifted his gaze to Key Wee. “None of you check out as a vendor or buyer doing business with the guild.” He stated and looked back to K. “You Captain, are a pirate! The Metals Guild does not tolerate piracy, so I will ask you this once and only once.” He sat back in his chair. “Why have you come here?”

Captain K studied the man and knew he was not bluffing. They were in real danger, so he decided to be on his best behavior and tell nothing but the truth. He respectfully inclined his head.
“MyLord, you are correct in the fact that I am a pirate. I have survived the Great War, sailed in many adventures and I one of the best.” He explained. “We are now on a mission for Queen Savore and we came here to speak to Lady Vulcan and plead for her help.”
Lady Vulcan now leaned forward in her chair. “Me?” She asked in surprise. “Why do you wish to speak to me and what help can I provide?”
Key Wee stepped forward and Bear growled angrily about to seize her shoulder, but lowered his arm when Lady Vulcan raised a staying hand in his direction.
“And your name dear?” She asked.
Key Wee bowed. “I am Arch-mage Key Wee of Narnia and Captain K is correct. We are on a mission for Queen Savore.” She answered.
“So, what so you wish with me?”
(Arch-mage Key Wee)
Key Wee sighed. “We seek the Silver Skull of Destiny…”

“What makes you think I can help you in your search for such an item?”
“We know you possess one of the four relics needed to reveal the location of the skull.”
“Even if Ma had such an artifact, why would we turn it over to a band of pirates?” Vulcan interrupted.
Captain K opened his mouth to respond, but a guard burst into the room at a full run heading towards the platform where they stood. He ran past the many glassed in tables and began to ascend the steps when Bear stopped him.

“What is going on here?” Bear growled.
Randall panted trying to catch his breath and looked up to Bear with panicked eyes.
“The Foundry is under attack!” He breathed looking over Bear’s shoulder to the Vulcans. “MyLord, MyLday, a dragon has burned down the first gate and even now tries to batter down the second!” He reported between breaths.
“What dragon?” Vulcan roared in confusion, but the sound of loud bangs began to echo into the great hall.
“What’s going on Randall?” Bear asked, shaking the man out of his delirium.
Randall blinked and began to focus. “Two more people came to the gates. They inquired about the prisoners. When we told them we couldn’t allow them inside the mountain…” He took a few deep breaths trying to calm himself. “The dragon attacked! The beast melted the outer gate and has weakened the inner one. It is trying to batter it down.” He explained urgently. “If it breathes fire again, the inner gate will melt as well. It’s only a matter of time before it breaches the mountain…”
“How can we stop it?” Vulcan asked his head of security, but then noticed his embarrassed expression. “What…” But then he understood. “You knew about the dragon?” He asked in disbelief.

Bear lowered his head and slowly nodded. “Yes… well, no.” He answered searching for his next words. “They said that they had arrived on a dragon, but none of the patrols have seen one and I didn’t believe them.” He explained.
Vulcan turned his angry eyes on Captain K. “Call it off! Tell it to stop its attack on the mountain!” He demanded.
Captain K shook his head. “I can’t. Tarakona won’t listen to me. He will only listen to Slak Tor.”
“And, who is Slak Tor?”
“The one that needs help!” Key Wee blurted in a frustrated tone. “He may be dying in our cell and if that happens…”

“Randall, bring Tessaira here immediately!” Vulcan ordered the young guard.
Cornelius shook his head as he watched the huge beast ramming the inner gate with all its strength and weight. The door had buckled but still held strong.
“I don’t understand…” He said to himself.
Lady Ravenhill looked up at him and raised a questioning brow.

“Why doesn’t he simply melt it like the first gate?” He thought for a moment. “Even if he did, what do we gain? Access inside for sure!” He agreed. “But, he can’t fit in there and we have no idea where the Captain and the others are being held. This is their main base and we will be badly out numbered, but hey, I am up for a fight!” He grinned.
The Lady watched the dragon wage its war against the thick metal door. Then she realized why he had not used his breath weapon to obliterate the second gate.
“I hope you are ready for a fight…” She said in a silken whisper. “He holds his fire to clear the tunnel ahead so we may enter without opposition until we reach deeper into the mountain.” She surmised.
“I have never fully understood the bond between Tarakona and Slak Tor, but it is powerful…” Her voice trailed off.
Cornelius sighed. “Slak Tor raised Tarakona from a hatchling. He and K found his egg shortly after the Great War and they have been together ever since.” He explained.
“Then Tarakona thinks of Slak Tor as his father?” She asked curiously.
Cornelius looked down at her in surprise. This was the most he had ever heard the lady speak. “Yes, I guess you could say that. I know Tarakona is extremely protective of him. I lightly punched him in the shoulder once laughing at a joke and thought Tarakona was going to burn me to ashes right then and there.” He chuckled.
But the Lady didn’t seem to hear him. She continued to watch the dragon’s efforts.
“Listen to him…” She whispered in a sad tone.
Cornelius listened, but only heard the loud bangs of armored scales against steel and the angry roars between beats.
Ravenhill sighed seeing his confused expression.
“Tarakona laments his worry, grief and desperation… not just anger.” She shook her head. “This is agonizing for him… separated from the one who has loved him all his life, apart from the one he calls father…” There was a pause as she thought on what she had learned. “Something is wrong. Slak Tor is either injured or dead. Whatever link between them has been severed and Tarakona has gone mad to learn what has happened.”
(Tarakona thanks to Slacker Stacker)
She then looked up and met his eyes. “When he breaches the gate, I am prepared to fight.” Her soft voice was saddened, but hard. “You may not be able to see me at times, do not let this slow you during combat. I will be there.” She instructed.
Cornelius nodded. “The ones I call brothers are in trouble and nothing will stop me from helping them. I am well aware that you can take care of yourself MyLady.”
She bowed and once again became silent.
“I wonder what’s going on…” D growled to himself as he watched Sir Bentley lower his head to check the dragon master’s breathing again. “Is he still alive?” He barked, but then sighed in embarrassment. “Forgive me; I am just frustrated and concerned.”
(Sir Bentley)
The hare looked up. “He lives, but I don’t know how much longer. His breathing is slow and shallow and I do understand how you feel Master D.”
Suddenly the sound of the lock reverberated in the room and the door swung open. The huge guard called Bear stepped and pointed at Slak Tor. “That’s him…” He said urgently.
A tall slender woman entered the chamber. She was dressed in violet robes of fine silk and very beautiful. Long blond locks fell about her shoulders, chest and back. Her eyes were an emerald green so vivid that they seemed unnatural and the tips of pointed ears protruded through her golden mane.
“Who is she?” D asked the large warrior in concern.
“She is here to help your friend, so back off and give her some room!” Bear ordered impatiently.
The woman held up a delicate hand to silence the Bear and inclined her head to D and Sir Bentley. “I am Tessaria of Ithrendale.” She introduced herself. “I am here to help, not harm.” She shook her head and spoke in a gentle soft voice. “Please… your friend is ill; let me try to help him.”
(Tessaria thanks to Slacker Stacker)
“I am not familiar with your people.” The hair said, staring at the tips of her ears.
“I am Sin’darie, a protector of life, nature and history.” She explained.
Sir Bentley just blinked. He had never heard of the Sin’darie.
“She’s an Elf!” Bear growled. “Now let her help your friend.”
Bentley looked up and met her eyes. He only saw concern and kindness. Bowing he fought his chains to move away.
Bear motioned for other guards to enter. “Free them, but don’t let them let them interfere with Tessa.” He commanded.
D watched the woman kneel at Slak Tor’s side and carefully touch his cheek. Her movements were fluid, graceful and he found himself captivated by her even as the manacles binding his ankles and wrists fell away.

Tessaria gently cupped Slak Tor’s head between her delicate hands and closed her eyes and suddenly gasped. Her eyes flew open and she looked to Bear. “This man is not totally human!” She breathed in surprise.
