Young girls pursuaded 85 year old to invest - and loose - 65 million Euro (HKD 580 m) in gold fraud

Fraud is as old as mankind but what I read today did raise my eyebrows. An 85 year old man in Hong Kong who believed he invested 65 million Euro in Gold in London is the biggest victim of a scam called the "London gold fraud".

The chinese hong kong police arrested two of the ringleaders and 12 "asssociees" who held the bankaccounts and rescued some 24 million in bank deposits. Last october the old man went to the police with his story.

Other victims

The other victims were understood to be ethnic Chinese citizens of Hong Kong, Taiwan,
the United States, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. The youngest was 32 and the smallest amount of money lost was HK$700,000.

So I hope no one of steemsilvergold was included here but I am sure you would already have posted about it.

Now the eyebrow raising part

Police said the group hired young, attractive girls – mostly secondary school graduates – and disguised them as “star financial consultants” to fish for victims on social media. The girls then persuaded the men to pay to trade gold on the London market. Some even promised to develop romantic relationships with clients.

I do read about men contacting girls on social media with wrong intents but here it are young girls promising romantic relationships next to a high investment return of course. Ha ha how rotten they acted.
