A shout out to @stokjockey for starting #piratesunday!
A shout out to @dixiesilverminer for sponsoring a steembasicincome contest for all to write a yarn of the Adventures of Captain K. @dixiesilverminer/piratesunday
I am having a wonderful time crafting my own tale of Captain K. @handofzara/the-adventures-of-young-captain-k-chapter-eleven-piratesunday-dixiesilverminer
The rules are fairly simple, write a story with the main character Captain K and link to @dixiesilverminer post above.
A fun fact about the tale that I am crafting. I am a history nerd and a font of useless information.
The first mate is a man by the name of Cornelius Hagney from Donegal, Ireland.
Was there a real Cornelius Hagney?
Near where I live in North Carolina during the American Revolution there was a great battle, the Battle at Guilford Courthouse. Over one hundred years later a farmer plowing in his fields unearthed the remains of three American soldiers who died in that battle and had been buried in an unmarked grave. Based upon the buttons that were also unearthed it was determined that these men had fought with the Delaware Company under Captain Kirkwood at the battle.
A monument was erected in their honor, on the battlefield.

Based upon regimental records these men, all privates were identified as William Drew, John Toland and CORNELIUS HAGNEY.
Further review of the Delaware regimental records revealed that Cornelius Hagney was born in Danfanagh, Ireland.
actual muster roll
And what County in Ireland is Danfanagy located in? (I believe that the "modern" spelling of the name is Dunfanaghy)
Donegal of course!
So there you have it, the namesake of the fictional character Cornelius Hagney was a real man, a patriot, and a soldier
who died at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in 1781 and reburied in 1888. A man from the County Donegal in Ireland.
