Sherlock Holmes Series Predicted Social Media Precrime Spying

I watch a modern revival of Sherock Holmes called Elementary. This season, the underlying theme of the series is about a billionaire big tech mogul who uses his vast empire to surveil the behavior of millions or billions. Why? To find and execute people before they commit crimes.

The season started nearly 3 months ago. Now we're seeing news reports of the feds trying to tap into (or already are tapped into) the social media big tech sites in order to track people's behavior in order to stop crimes before they happen, i.e. precrime like the movie Minority Report.

This has been going on long before the current season of Elementary, but the most recent news is more poignant as the exactitude of the measures being undertaken.

It's interesting how reality is mirror in fiction, and sometimes how some things are hypothesizes in fiction before we get to see them come to fruition in reality. That's what sci-fi has done for decades. Star Trek had mobile communication devices, and now we have cell phones. There are countless other examples you can find.

The latest is one of the most shocking, not for it's technological marvel, but for the breadth of infringement on our privacy. From data collection online, to face scans in public. We are being steadily shoved into a great control grid, inch by inch. And most people welcome the trade off of freedom and liberty for the security they fear they lack.

Fear is the mind killer. Unfortunately, I see many dead minds.
