Steemit Vision Quest Week 5: Desert Wilderness

The desert is sexy.

Like the Mother Goddess: Primal, irresistibly alluring yet undeniably dangerous. So often we get hung up on some notion that being sexy is dirty. It can be debased to be sure, but life is sacred and life begins with sex.

I am saddened by the lack of support for families in our modern society. We have been conditioned to treat sex as if it were the key to, and barometer of, a healthy relationship and I suspect many families are torn apart over something as simple and temporary as a lull in sex drive. If Hollywood made movies with depictions of communities helping families through difficult times rather than endless scenes of cheap sex, I wonder if the divorce rate would go down? I wonder if communities would try to be supportive of families in trouble rather than sending in "authorities" to snatch kids at the first sign the parents are under duress?

This week, I want to make a tribute to sacred sex. Not porn, I am just not that kind of girl. When the prompt was first mentioned last week I knew the direction I wanted to take this. A few days ago I wrote a poem and as always a tune played in my head as I wrote.

I found I had the time to try to let that tune find its voice, so I worked out a little melody and the chords. It never sounds exactly as it did in my head, but I was pleased with the result, so I made an entry into this week's Open Mic with the song. I won't be so cheesy as to include a link to that, it is the same song attached below. Except Open Mic got it without the slides!

That process was part of this process, though. Rather than use the same cut I did for my entry I used one I made a stupid mistake on. I was all set to enter the version in my slideshow when I realized I forgot to say my username at the start... OK, do it again! I left the opening on at the start so you can hear. I guess that would be not hear? It is not like I am a fabulous musician or this was a killer take or anything like that. My point is that I am a very mediocre musician and it took hours to get this relatively clean take and another hour to do it over with "fishyculture" at the beginning for my Open Mic entry! If I could eliminate "stupid mistakes" from my processes, life would be a lot easier! ;)

The last part of putting this together was the most time consuming. There were many pictures to comb through, @longsilver and I have been running around the desert a long time now! I wanted to illustrate the song with scenes from our life. I wanted to imbue the viewer with a sense of what deeply committed, long term love is like. Not trashy, just real, and sexy like the desert. We have been together for almost 40 years now and we did not get here by making cheap sex the priority in our relationship. We also did not make it here by being so prude we could not comprehend the sacred nature of sexuality. Strong families begin with honoring the sacredness of sex. And if you make all the way to the end, I honor the sacredness of humor a bit too!

It is all safe for work I promise. I hope you enjoy my offering this week, a little skinny dip under the desert moon!
