The most exotic places in the world #8 - Essaouira, Morocco

After visiting more than 50 countries, and 500 cities in the world I will give you my top 10 list of the most exotic destinations you can visit when you live on the road.

Number 8 on my exotic places to visit list is Essaouira which is located on the west coast of Morocco 100 km north of Agadir. Since I arrived here with a sailboat some few years ago, it is not easy for me to tell you what the easiest way here would be. However, I have a feeling that taking a flight to Agadir and catch a bus from there to Essaouira would be a good pick.

This little fishing village is a must for those who travel to Morocco, and except being a hidden jewel for hippies 100 km north of the tourist trap Agadir - it is also famous for its fantastic seafood and white sandy beaches (which is not overcrowded). You will also find alot of surfers here as it seems that they also avoid touristraps. The harbour is filled up with their carachteristic fishing boats, and you will recognize that this port is also a popular stop for sailboats on their way to the Canary islands and later on to cross the Atlantic ocean.

The town itself is exotic and I recomend everyone to try out their wonderful Kus Kus additional to try out the famous fish restaurant in the harbour which is known all over the world . It is worth to mention that Alfred Hitchcock found inspiration to write his famous book the Birds here, no wonder taking into account that it is more seagulls here than people. If there is something you wonder about, feel free to ask and I will do my best to help you to make your travel as easy and comfortable as possible.

Safe travels!
