Speaking of traditional restaurant, MGF is supposed to be one of my most visited restaurant since I moved to Kuala Lumpur. However, 2 years ago they changed name to GF. Rumour has it, the brothers are splitting and one of them took the name MGF license and left the other brother without a name. I don't know about the detail, but their food remain marvelously delicious and our family continue to visit very oftenly. Recently, they have moved to another area in Northen Kuala Lumpur, situated in a housing area. Me and my family went for early father's day dinner there.

The menu

First of all, it's a seafood restaurant, the menu will be full of seafood related dishes on the first few page. For us, old time customer, we prefer the lady boss to serve us, so she can recommend some of the featured food, highly recommended by the chef. One thing for sure, this is Kuala Lumpur, not anywhere near to the sea. When talking about seafood, these has to be transported from the port and usually those sea creature will be in the aquarium for atleast a few days before they get slaughtered and cooked for consumption. It can still be very fresh, but I bet you can tell the difference of the flesh after it's cooked.

Sweet sour pork/chicken cube 咕噜肉

When you have young family tag along for lunch or dinner, this is one of the must order food. The meat being cut into cube shape so it can be easily fried. And topped with tomato puri made sweet sour cause. Onions, bell pepper and cucumber being stir fried before mixing with the prediluted tomato sauce. Trust me, I've done my best trying to grab my phone to take a photo, but I was too late. Not only kids love it, the adults find it very mouth drooling and the sauce added on white rice literally make the monotone white rice become super delicious.

Spinach soup 上汤苋菜

Typical Chinese like to have some clear soup go by their rice, so it won't feel so dry. Since we have kids around, and asking them to chew vegetable is usually one of the mission impossible, having a good bowl of soup may actually got them "drink" some vege juice. Atleast spinach has higher iron and protein the kids get to absorb from the soup.

Shrimp fried egg 虾仁煎蛋

Usually, ex-girlfriend sister and her family will order this dish because their son only like this. However, there are choices of long beans mixed with fried egg, mixture of BBQ pork with onion fried egg we call FOO YOONG fried egg 芙蓉煎蛋. One of my all time favorite is radish fried egg. The chopped radish is crunchy, mixed with fried egg makes it taste outstandingly funky yet irresistable.

Laughter ribs 笑口骨

This, is chef recommended and those who visit the MGF restaurant must order this dish. This is their in house recipe of ribs. I do not know what they use to marinate the ribs, but it's tender and soft. The taste of the marinated sauce is not too sweet, but came with a slight burnt smell makes the ribs very delicious.

Minced meat bean curd(Tofu)肉碎豆腐

Usually this is nothing to shout about, but again with broth in the dish is better for the kids. The tofu is made of soy bean and eggs, hence it looks a little yellowish. The taste of this dish is normal, you would be expecting it taste the same anywhere around in Malaysia. It has to depend on the way how they cook the minced meat to make this dish outstanding. If you have a chance to try others, should try their significant MGF Tofu, their in house recipe fried tofu. I would not dive into it too much, I will tell you about it next time if I get a chance to order it.

Thai style deep fried Tilapia(Tilapiini)泰式油浸非洲(罗非鱼)

This is the first time I try this dish. The sauce taste slightly fruity, taste almost like lime, sweetened to reduce spiciness, and added with lots of spices flavoring. Taste almost like real Thai restaurant. The sauce is very thick, spicy, sour and sweet at the same time. One can finish a plate of rice by adding only the sauce. As for the fish, I think the chef is really used to fried this kind of big fish. The entire fish, from top to bottom, front front to the end, has been properly fried to the deepest inside the fish. The fish tail, so crunchy that if you closed your eyes and take a bite, structural wise it almost make you think it's a potato chips. However, the mixture of a fried fish does not match with the spicy Thai sauce in my opinion. I'm not saying wrong, its just that I don't like the combination of fried fish and added with spicy and sour sauce. Best I can do is, on my next visit I will order the same dish, but I'll request to have a steamed fish instead.

Frankly, for 7 adults and 2 chilren, RM153 is really affordable. Had we not order that fish, could have ended up eating more dishes with different variety.
